Seton Hall dominated the first set early, scoring six of the first seven points. Providence bounced back to cut their deficit to 7-5, but the Pirates took off on an 11-4 run, and a block by Matheny and Julia Wilkins (Mason, Ohio) gave them a commanding 18-9 advantage. The Friars, however, came roaring back with a 14-2 run, turning a nine-point deficit into a three-point lead, 23-20. A kill by Wilkins and a block by Madison Frusha (Huntsville, Texas) and Emilee Turner (Kaysville, Utah) cut the Friars' lead to 23-22, but Providence recollected itself and scored the final two points of the set.
Â
SET 2:
With the score tied a nine in the second set, Providence scored seven of the next nine points to take a 16-11 lead. The Pirates twice cut their deficit to just a single point, with a Friars' attack error bringing The Hall to within 22-21 late. Providence, however, bounced back and scored the last three points consecutively to win the second frame, 25-21.
