SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Mya Jackson (Wilmington, Ohio), Andra Espinoza-Hunter (Ossining, N.Y.) and Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) all had at least 17 points as the Seton Hall women's basketball team defeated St. Thomas Aquinas, 107-50, in exhibition action on Friday.
Â
Jackson led the way for the Pirates with a game-high 18 points on the strength of four made three-pointers. Both Espinoza-Hunter and Park-Lane poured in 17 points. Espinoza-Hunter had five made three-pointers, while Park-Lane added seven assists and five steals.
Â
Two other Pirates making their game debuts with The Hall, Curtessia Dean (Monroe, La.) and Katie Armstrong (Collegeville, Pa.), also scored in double-figures. Dean had 13 points to go with seven rebounds, while Armstrong had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Â
Seton Hall got off to a slow start, and trailed the Spartans after one quarter, 16-14. The Pirates went 0-for-9 from three-point range in the opening 10 minutes and started the game just 1-for-13 from the floor.
Â
The second quarter, however, was a much different story, after St. Thomas Aquinas scored the first bucket to give them an 18-14 advantage, the Pirates took off on a game-changing 39-5 run, which included separate 15-0 and 14-0 bursts. A made three-pointer by Jackson, the Pirates' eighth of the quarter, with two seconds before the buzzer, sent The Hall into halftime up, 56-25.
Â
The Hall outscored STAC, 42-9, and were 73.7% from the floor, including 8-for-11 from three-point range in the game-defining second quarter.
Â
Seton Hall kept the throttle down to open the second half. After the Spartans scored the first basket, the Pirates went on 19-0 run, and a layup by Espinoza-Hunter gave them a commanding 74-27 lead. From there, the lead never got less than 40 points and The Hall went on for the easy victory.
Â
