2020-21 Meeting: HALL 77, Marquette 66 (F) – Jan. 15, 2021
Â
LAST YEAR AGAINST MARQUETTE
Seton Hall won its only meeting with the Golden Eagles last season, as a scheduled second meeting in Milwaukee was canceled due to COVID-19.
Â
Andra Espinoza-Hunter and Desiree Elmore combined for 45 points as the Pirates defeated Marquette, 77-66, in Walsh Gym on Jan. 15. Seton Hall kept Marquette off the scoreboard for a stunning 8:17 in the second quarter, enabling it to go on a 14-0 run and set the tone for the remainder of the game.
Â
For a second straight game, Espinoza-Hunter drained seven three-pointers, shooting 7-for-12 from beyond the arc. She finished with a game-high 25 points to go with five rebounds and two steals.Â
Â
SCOUTING MARQUETTE
The Golden Eagles are coming off a successful 19-7 campaign during the abbreviated 2020-21 season. They fell in the title game of the BIG EAST Championship to UConn, but earned an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Marquette dropped its first-round game, 70-63, to Virginia Tech.
Â
This year, Marquette is predicted to finish fourth, right behind the Pirates, in the 11-team BIG EAST Conference, according to the Preseason Coaches' Poll. Lauren Van Kleunen was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.Â
Â
Marquette enters its contest with Seton Hall with an 8-2 overall record and a 2-0 mark in conference play. The Golden Eagles have won four straight and are coming off an 89-65 victory over North Dakota last Saturday. In BIG EAST play, Marquette has already handedly defeated Xavier and Butler. Sunday's game at Seton Hall is their first road test in conference play.Â
Â
UP NEXT
Seton Hall will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 21 when it hosts Wagner in Walsh Gymnasium for its final non-conference game of the regular season. Tip time is scheduled for Noon. The game will be streamed live by the Pirate Sports Network and available for FloSports subscribers.
