
Park-Lane Shines in Pirate Setback to No. 2 Connecticut

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Junior Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) had a team-high 20 points, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team fell to No. 2 Connecticut, 74-49, in a sold-out Walsh Gymnasium on Friday.

For the second straight game against the Huskies, the Pirates had a lead after the first quarter, but UConn outscored The Hall, 23-6, in the second quarter to pull away.

Park-Lane had 20 points to go with a team-best five assists and four rebounds. Junior Mya Jackson (Wilmington, Ohio) and Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) also reached double-figures in scoring, notching 14 and 13 points respectively.

The Story:
Seton Hall trailed 7-3 early, but then went on a 10-0 run, and a three-pointer by Cooks gave it a 13-7 advantage with 4:44 left in the opening quarter. Connecticut closed the quarter with a 9-4 burst, but the Pirates carried a 17-16 lead into the second quarter. The Hall forced six UConn turnovers in the first 10 minutes and Jackson had eight first-quarter points.

UConn took control in the second quarter, however, holding The Hall to just 2-for-14 shooting from the floor. Leading 20-19, the Huskies went on a 12-0 run to grab a 32-19 advantage with 4:18 left before halftime. In all, UConn outscored the Pirates, 23-to-6, in the second quarter to take a 39-23 lead into the locker room.

After a mostly even third quarter, the Pirates made another run to begin the fourth. The Hall scored seven straight points, highlighted by a three-pointer from Park-Lane, to cut its deficit to 55-43, with 7:16 left to play. With the lead still 12 points, 57-45, the Huskies put the game away with a 12-2 burst to give them a commanding 69-47, lead with just 2:57 remaining.

Seton Hall will return to action on Sunday, December 5 when it has its first true road game of the season. The Pirates will make the short trip to Queens, N.Y. for a contest at St. John's. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The contest will be nationally televised on FS1.
