
Pirates Win Battle of "SHU"premacy, 3-1

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Three Pirates recorded double-doubles and the team had 15 total blocks as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team downed Sacred Heart, 3-1, in Walsh Gymnasium on Saturday.

Freshman Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) recorded a match-high 18 kills to go with 11 digs, while teammate Tsvetelina Ilieva (Sofia, Bulgaria) tallied career-highs of 15 kills, 16 digs and five blocks. Setter Taylor Jakubowski (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) had a career-high 44 assists to go with 10 digs.

Junior Emilee Turner (Kaysville, Utah) finished with 12 kills and a career-high six blocks, while junior Madison Frusha (Huntsville, Texas) led the Pirates defense with nine blocks.

SET 1:
Seton Hall jumped on Sacred Heart at the start, using a 9-1 run to take a 10-3 lead early in the first set. Sacred Heart rallied to tie the set at 15, but the Pirates went on a 6-0 run, and a block by Turner and Julia Wilkins (Mason, Ohio) gave them a 21-15 advantage. The Pioneers cut the Pirates' lead to 23-22, but a kill by Frusha put The Hall in set point, and an ace by Ilieva won the set, 25-22.

SET 2:
Set two appeared to be heading in the same direction, but with the Pirates leading 12-8, Sacred Heart went on a 7-1 run to grab a 15-13 advantage. The Hall never found the equalizer. Five times Seton Hall cut the Pioneer lead to one point, but it couldn't draw even. Sacred Heart went on to tie the match with a 25-20 victory, as Seton Hall had a match-low .081 attack percentage.

SET 3:
The third set was a completely different story as Seton Hall never trailed. The Pirates raced out to a 7-0 lead, and extended their advantage to as much as 10 points, 18-8, with a kill by Ilieva. Leading 23-16, a kill by Lucas put The Hall in set point, and three points later, another by Ilieva ended it in Seton Hall's favor, 25-18. The Pirates had an impressive .385 attack percentage in the third set, which included 17 kills and just two attack errors.

SET 4:
The fourth set was the closest of the match with neither team grabbing a lead of greater than three points until late. Trailing 22-21, Seton Hall closed out the match with four straight points. A kill by Turner tied the set at 22. Then the Pirates benefited by two consecutive Pioneers errors, before Lucas finished it with a kill, 25-22.

Seton Hall will return to action on Friday, March 5 it hosts Providence to open BIG EAST play at Walsh Gymnasium. Match time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET.
