LAST MATCH
Three Pirates recorded double-doubles and the team had 15 total blocks as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team downed Sacred Heart, 3-1, in Walsh Gymnasium on Feb. 27.
Â
Freshman Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) recorded a match-high 18 kills to go with 11 digs, while teammate Tsvetelina Ilieva (Sofia, Bulgaria) tallied career-highs of 15 kills, 16 digs and five blocks. Setter Taylor Jakubowski (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) had a career-high 44 assists to go with 10 digs.
Â
Junior Emilee Turner (Kaysville, Utah) finished with 12 kills and a career-high six blocks, while junior Madison Frusha (Huntsville, Texas) led the Pirates defense with nine blocks.
Â
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
Seton Hall has a slim 18-16 lead in the all-time series against the Friars. The Pirates had won eight straight against Providence until the Friars snapped the streak with a sweep of The Hall at Alumni Hall last season. Providence hasn't defeated the Pirates in Walsh Gym since 1998.
Â
The Friars are coming off a rough 2019 campaign that featured a 6-25 final record and a 1-17 mark in conference play, although their one victory came at the expense of Seton Hall. After beating the Pirates, Providence closed the season with seven straight losses.
Â
This season, the Friars are off to a 2-0 start with four-set victories over Bryant and Rhode Island. Both Emma Nelson and Elena Leontaridou have already been named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Rolls. Sophomore Jennifer Leitman was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Collectively, the Friars were picked to finish last in the five-team East Division of the BIG EAST this season, just one point behind the Pirates.
Â
UP NEXT
Seton Hall will return to action next weekend when it hosts St. John's for two matches in two days, March 12-13 in Walsh Gymnasium. Match time for both contests are scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET. The contests are currently scheduled to be streamed by the Pirate Sports Network. The matches will also be available on the radio at 89.5 FM WSOU or wsou.net.
