
Ramachandran Leads The Hall After Two Rounds of Big Texan

KERRVILLE, TEXAS – Junior Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.) is even-par after two round and has led the Seton Hall men's golf team to a fifth place standing with 18 holes remaining at The Big Texan at Comanche Trace, on Monday.

Ramachandran opened his day with a 2-over-par, 74, in the first round, which was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5, No. 18 hole. In the afternoon, he shaved four strokes off his score, using four birdies and 12 pars to fuel a 2-under-par, 70.  Through two rounds, Ramachandran is in 10th place among 55 individual golfers with an even-par, 74-70-144. He trails the individual leader, New Mexico State's Garrison Smith by five strokes.

As a team, the Pirates were relatively consistent on Monday, shooting a 10-over-par, 298, in the morning and scoring an 8-over-par, 296, in the afternoon. Currently, The Hall is 18-over-par with a 298-296-594 for the tournament. Host UT-Rio Grande Valley leads the field and is the only team with a sub-par score at 4-under.

A pair of Pirates are currently tied for 21st place overall with a 6-over-par, 150. Alex McAuley (Douglas, Isle of Man) shot a 4-over-par, 76, in round one, but shaved off two strokes in the afternoon for a 2-over-par, 74. Senior Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) shot a pair of 3-over-par, 75's, suffering from one double-bogey or worse in both rounds, but otherwise was solid throughout the day.

Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) was the Seton Hall leader after a first round 1-over-par, 73. The senior birdied three straight holes, 13 through 15, to fuel his round. In the afternoon, however, Tait struggled, finishing with a 7-over-par, 79. Through two rounds, he is 8-over-par with a 783-79-152.

Rounding out the Pirates' lineup was Alex Sun (Danville, Calif.), making his collegiate tournament debut. The freshman shot a 7-over-par, 79, in the morning, and shaved off two strokes with the help of three birdies for a 5-over-par, 77, in the afternoon. Currently, he is 12-over-par with a 79-77-156.

Tom Kite, along with Roy Bechtol and Randy Russell, designed the first 18, The Valley and The Hills, utilizing the exquisite Hill Country terrain, which is blessed with majestic oaks. Lakes and streams were also incorporated along with the best bent grass greens in the state. Jay and Carter Morrish designed a series of streams and lakes that meander around the third 9, The Creeks, which opened in July of 2008.Comanche Trace is somewhat unique because they are not dense with trees, but they have marquis trees throughout. The fairways are generous and playable with striking bunkers and outstanding views on each green.

Comanche Trace offers beautiful golf holes, natural contouring and pristine conditions. The greens are a blend of Bent Grass, Crenshaw and L93 bent grass, which, combined with remarkable drainage and dry air, have no need for fans. Comanche Trace course conditions are renowned among golfers as the best in the state and some of the best in the nation.

All three nines begin from the high point of the 15-acre Practice Facility, located at the Honor House. The Practice Facility includes a short-game area at the lower end with two, large tee boxes, practice green, fairway type bunker, greenside bunker, and five target greens inside of 120 yards. It is a pristine setting with long-range views and beautiful, old live oak trees for shading around the practice area.

In addition to Seton Hall and host Texas-Rio Grande Valley, the field features eight other teams including: Chicago State, Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, New Mexico State, New Orleans, Odessa College, Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern.

FORMAT / TEE TIMES:
The field will play two rounds on Monday and one round on Tuesday. Monday's play will begin with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m., while Tuesday's final round will have a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
