SOUTH PITTSBURG, TENN. – Four Pirates registered match victories on Wednesday as the Seton Hall men's golf team defeated Northern Kentucky, 5-1, in the final team match of the Sweetens Cove Intercollegiate.
Â
The Hall's victory gives them seventh place in the three-day event. The second-seeded Pirates were upset by seventh-seeded Bowling Green, 5.5-0.5 in the first round on Monday, and fell to third-seeded Queens University, 3-2, on Tuesday. Host Miami (Ohio) claimed the team title for the second straight year.
Â
George Fricker (Woodbridge, England) was the lone Pirate to win two matches this week. On Wednesday, he won a back-and-forth match against NKU's Grant Broughton, 1UP. Trailing by one hole after 16, Fricker birdied hole No. 17, while Broughton double-bogeyed to tie the score, and then parred No. 18, while Broughton bogeyed, to win the match.
Â
Senior David Lally (Wicklow, Ireland) had the most-convincing victory of the day for Seton Hall, defeating Northern Kentucky's Micah Bertram, 3&1.  After the golfers tied the first hole, Lally won hole No. 2 and never trailed again. In fact, after the first hole, Lally won five of the next six to grab a commanding 5UP lead with 11 holes to play. Bertram rallied, eventually cutting his deficit to just one hole through 15, but Lally was able to win holes No. 16 and No. 17 to put the match away.
Â
Sophomore Luke Nolan (Austin, Texas) fell behind Caleb Eaglin early, but won holes No. 3 and No. 4 to take a 1UP lead. Eaglin tied the match with a victory in hole No. 5, but Nolan reclaimed the lead with victories on holes No. 6 and No. 7 and never trailed again. The sophomore claimed his victory win of the tournament, 2&1.
Â
It went the distance, but Eli Shah (Newtown Square, Pa.) also claimed his first match victory of the event. He trailed by as many as three holes early, but rallied to win four holes in a row, No. 5 through No. 8 to take a 1UP lead. After being briefly tied through nine holes, Shah took the lead by parring holes No. 10 and No. 11, while Northern Kentucky's Zack Beard bogeyed both. He never trailed again and won the match, 1UP.
Â
Blake Goodnight (Dallas, Texas) lost the first hole to NKU's Brady Holmes and trailed for the next 14 holes. The freshman won hole No. 16 to pull even for the first time in the match, but lost hole No. 17 to fall behind again. On the 18th hole, Goodnight parred, while Holmes bogeyed and the match was tied.
Â
Will Hennessee (Tulsa, Okla.) trailed by as many as two holes on the front nine, then won six of the next seven holes to take a commanding 4UP lead on Northern Kentucky's Mason Butler with six holes remaining. Butler, however, rallied by winning four of the final five holes to force the match tie.
