
Newgarden Leads Hall at BIG EAST Championships

Cary, N.C. - The Seton Hall women's cross country team finished up the BIG Championships on Friday. The meet was the first time since November 2019 that the Pirates saw competitive action. Seton Hall took 11th in the field.
The Hall was led by junior Emma Newgarden (Staten Island, N.Y.) with a time of 23:35.0. For Newgarden, it was her eighth time pacing the Pirates in her career and first since her freshman season in which she led The Hall in seven of nine races.
Coming in behind Newgarden was senior Cristina Fernandez (Parsippany, N.J.) who finished in a time of 24:17.9. Sophomore Nancy Habib (Clifton, N.J.) took third for the Pirates with a time of 24:46.0. Rounding out the top five for Seton Hall were Lauren Ginefra (Budd Lake, N.J.) and Arianna Braccio (Nashua, N.H.) who finished in 25:06.1 and 25:33.8, respectively.
Competing for the Pirates at BIG EAST Championships this year also included Rica Ongsiako (Matawan, N.J.), Abigail Hughes (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Meghan Vizzard (Mt. Laurel, N.J.).
The Pirates will continue their spring season when they run again at the Lafayette Invitational on March 27.
