
Pirates Fall to Host in Utah State Finale

LOGAN, UTAH – Sophomore Tsvetelina Ilieva (Sofia, Bulgaria) had a team-high seven kills, and junior Raygan Murray (Rocky River, Ohio) had 11 digs, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to Utah State, 3-0 (11-25, 24-26, 19-25), on Saturday.

Ilieva had seven kills and just two attack errors to lead The Hall offensively. Junior Julia Wilkins (Mason, Ohio) also had an efficient match with six kills and no attack errors contributing to a team-best .462 attack percentage.

SET 1:
Utah State dominated the opening set from the start, scoring the first four points. A kill by Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) cut the Pirates' deficit to 6-4, but then the Aggies took off again, going on a 12-3 run to take a commanding 18-7 advantage. Utah State had a .462 attack percentage in the opening set, compared to just .074 for The Hall, and won, 25-11.

SET 2:
The second set was a very different story with competitive play throughout the period. The Pirates led for the majority of the set, and an Aggie ball-handling error gave them a 19-15 lead. Utah State stormed back and tied the set at 22. Back-to-back points by the Pirates, including a block by Rachwal and freshman Katie Winkler (Troy, Wis.) put them in set point, 24-22, but Utah State scored the final four points of the set to win, 26-24, and take a two-set match lead.

Seton Hall never led in the third set. A kill by Ilieva cut the Pirate deficit to 15-12, but Utah State responded with a 7-1 burst to grab a commanding 22-13 advantage. The Hall made a late run with three straight points to pull to within five, 23-18, but the Aggies closed out the sweep with a 25-19 third set win.

Seton Hall will return to action next weekend when it begins play at the Fairfield Invitational. The Pirates will take on host Fairfield on Friday at 12:30 p.m. before facing Hofstra at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, The Hall will finish play at the invitational with a match against Kent State at 11:00 a.m.
