Â
Sophomore Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) and junior Madeline Matheny (Wilmington, Del.) were named to the All-Big Apple Tournament Team. Both Pirates collected their first double-doubles of the season against St. Francis on Saturday. Matheny's 16 kills and 19 digs led the team and were career-highs.
Â
Freshman Anna Holland (Waukesha, Wis.) averaged 5.33 digs per set last week and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
Â
SCOUTING FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL
Seton Hall and Florida International will be meeting for the first time ever.
Â
Florida International is coming off a 3-10 abbreviated 2021 spring season, however it finished its season on a positive note, downing Florida Atlantic in the final two matches. In their last full season, the Panthers went 10-16 in 2019.
Â
This season, the Panthers were picked to finish seventh in the 7-team East Division of Conference USA.Â
So far, Florida International is off to a 2-5 start. The Panthers dropped both of their matches at the FIU Invitational to begin the season against Tarleton State and Miami. They bounced back with wins in to of three matches the next weekend at the FGCU Tournament. The victories came over Florida A&M and USC Upstate. Most recently, FIU was swept in a pair of matches last weekend against Murray State and Georgia Southern.
Â
SCOUTING MIDDLE TENNESSEE
Seton Hall and Middle Tennessee have a relatively recent history. The teams have met only twice with the Pirates winning both contests. The Hall defeated the Blue Raiders in five sets as part of the 2014 Seton Hall Classic and also swept them on the road in 2016.
Â
The Blue Raiders are coming off a 5-11 final record in the spring's shortened season. Their season came to an end with an opening round loss to Rice in the Conference USA Tournament. Middle Tennessee went 13-17 in their last full season in 2019.
Â
This season, Middle Tennessee was picked to finish in fourth place of the 7-team East Division of Conference USA, according to the Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Blue Raiders enter this weekend with a 1-2 overall record. They opened the season with a sweep of Alabama State, but then lost to Gardner-Webb in five sets and were swept by Jacksonville State.
Â
SCOUTING NORTH FLORIDA
Seton Hall and North Florida have never met.
Â
The Ospreys are coming off a 10-10 abbreviated spring season and saw it come to an end with a four-set loss to top-seeded Lipscomb in the semifinals of the A-SUN Championship. In 2019, its last full season, North Florida went 15-18.
Â
North Florida was selected to finish fourth in the 12-team Atlantic Sun Conference, according to the league coaches in the preseason poll. It was one of four teams to receive a first-place vote. Junior Rocio Moro has been named the A-SUN Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
North Florida is off to a strong start so far this season, winning eight of their first nine matches. The Ospreys swept their way through the first two weekends, winning the FAU Tournament and the UNF Invitational, which included an impressive five-set victory over Virginia Tech. Most recently, UNF won two of three matches at the Fight in the Fort at TCU. The Ospreys swept Houston Baptist, was swept by host TCU and finished off the vent with a four-set win over Louisiana Tech.
Â
