
Acevedo Leads Pirates in Strong Start to Hartford Hawks Invite

The graduate student fired a 3-under-par, 69, to lift the Pirates to a third place standing.
SOUTH KENT, CONN. – Graduate student Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) fired a 3-under-par, 69, to lead the Seton Hall men's golf team to a tie for third place after round one of the Hartford Hawks Invitational on Monday.

Acevedo was brilliant in round one, firing his lowest round since his freshman year. After 18 holes, he's tied for third among 114 individual golfers. Acevedo trails the individual leaders, Sacred Heart's Marcus Lim and UCF's Nicolas Estrada, by one stroke entering round two.

As a team, Seton Hall is tied with Sacred Heart for third place in a large field of 18 teams. The Pirates shot a 1-over-par, 289, in round one and the team leader, UCF, by five strokes. Fellow BIG EAST competitor, Connecticut, is currently in second place just one stroke ahead of The Hall.

Senior Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.) also had a strong opening round, firing an even-par, 72. He's tied for 14th overall after 18 holes.

Graduate student Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) and freshman Angus O'Brien (Barwon Heads, Australia) are currently tied for 28th place after shooting a 2-over-par, 74.

Junior Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) is tied for 39th place after a 3-over-par, 75. Xie is the defending individual champion of the Hartford Hawks Invitational having shot 10-under-par in 2019.

Three Pirates also made the trip to Bull's Bridge to compete as individuals. Sophomore Alex Sun (Danville, Calif.) shot a 2-over-par, 74. Sophomore Brody Hanley (Lantana, Texas) is 4-over-par following a 76, while Hunter Ramee (Warren, Conn.) shot a 9-over-par, 81.

Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

Schedule:
The field will play two continuous rounds on Monday with a shotgun start beginning at 8:00 a.m. A final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday with also an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
