
Pirates Look to Defend Crown at Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Seton Hall women' golf team will return to the links on Saturday, September 25 for the first two of three rounds of golf at the 2021 Princeton Invitational at Springdale Golf Club.

The Course:
Dating back to 1895, Springdale Golf Club is one of the oldest in New Jersey. Designed by Gerard Lambert and revised by William Flynn in 1926, the walkable course requires precision shot-making and has superior conditions and playability. The property, which was originally private farmland, was purchased by the Class of 1886 and gifted to Princeton University with the expectation of establishing one of the first courses in the region. The private club has a close relationship with the University, and counts many university professors, administrators and students among its members.  With a fine and experienced PGA staff, the club hosts numerous tournaments, collegiate matches, clinics and golf outings every year.Â

The Format:
Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

The Field:
In addition to Seton Hall and two teams from host Princeton, the field is comprised of 10 other teams including: Albany, Columbia, Dartmouth, Fairleigh Dickinson, Harvard, Penn, Rollins and Yale. A pair of BIG EAST opponents, Georgetown and St. John's are also in the field.

Seton Hall will be bringing the following lineup, in order as indicated, to Princeton.
Last Time at Princeton:
Former Pirate Sammie Staudt fired a 1-over-par, 73, in the final round to help lead the Pirates to the 2019 Princeton Invitational title. Staudt tied for second place with a new career-low 3-under-par, 68-73-141. She finished tied with Princeton's Grace Ni, three strokes behind the individual champion, Yale's Ami Gianchandani.

As a team, The Hall claimed the championship with a prestigious 1-under-par, 283-292-575. Host Princeton finished seven strokes behind The Hall. BIG EAST opponents St. John's and Georgetown finished 33 and 36 strokes respectively behind the Pirates.Â

Last Time Out:
Graduate transfer Margot Bechadergue (Aix-En-Provence, France) fired an even-par, 72, in the final round to lift the Seton Hall women's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Nittany Lion Invitational.

Bechadergue recorded four birdies in route to an even-par, 72, in the final round on Sunday. For the tournament, she placed fourth among 85 individual golfers with a 5-under-par, 71-68-72-211. Bechadergue finished five strokes behind the individual champion, Penn State's Mathilde Delavallade.

As a team, the Pirates the Pirates shot an 8-over-par, 296, in Sunday's final round and finished in fifth place among 14 teams. For the three-round event, The Hall fired a 12-over-par, 296-284-296-876. Penn State won the team title at 13-under-par. Delaware finished second at 1-under-par. Seton Hall's lone BIG EAST competition, Georgetown, finished in seventh place at 20-over-par.

The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The field will play two continuous rounds. The Pirates will be paired with golfers from Princeton and Yale on Saturday. On Sunday, the field will play one final round, also with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
