
Habib Places First, Pirates Win at Embry-Riddle

Daytona Beach, Fla. – For the second meet in a row, the Pirates' Nancy Habib (Clifton, N.J.), captured a first-place individual finish as the Seton Hall women's cross country team took first, this time at the 2021 Embry-Riddle Cross Country Classic on Saturday. The Pirates paced a field of 11 schools enroute to the victory.
For the third time in three meets this season, Habib led the Pirates finishing with a time of 19:30.6 in the 5k race. Following Habib was the freshman duo of Julia Smith (Pittsgrove, N.J.) and Taj Lanier (Lincoln University, Pa.) with fourth and sixth-place finishes, respectively. Smith finished in a time of 19:57.7 while Lanier took sixth in 20:07.7. Abigail Hughes (Staten Island, N.Y.) rounded out the top-10 finishers for The Hall with a ninth-place overall finish, doing so in a time of 20:26.2.
Taking top-20 for Seton Hall were Lauren Ginefra (Budd Lake, N.J.) in 12th in a time of 20:40.5, Amelia Carson (Charleston, S.C. ) in 15th in a time of 21:11.2 and Kate Cochran (Sewell, N.J.) in 17th in a time of 21:16.3. Also competing for The Hall was Emma Newgarden (Staten Island, N.Y.), Danielle Becker (Manalapan, N.J.), Rica Ongsiako (Matawan, N.J.) and Brianna Peiffer (Missouri City, Texas).
The Pirates will return back home for a local meet at the Highlander XC Challenge hosted by NJIT. The race will take place on Saturday, Oct. 2, in Newark, N.J.
