Bechadergue Guides Pirates to Third Place Finish at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – Graduate student Margot Bechadergue (Aix-en-Provence, France) fired an even-par, 72, in Sunday's final round to guide the Seton Hall women's golf team to a third-place finish at the 2021 Princeton Invitational.

Bechadergue had only two blemishes on an otherwise dazzling final round, a bogey on the par-5, No. 4 hole, and a double-bogey on the par-4, No. 16 hole. She had three birdies and 13 pars in route to an even-par, 72, the top Pirate round of the day. For the tournament, she finished at 1-over-par with a 69-76-72-217. Bechadergue tied for sixth place among 70 individual golfers for her second straight top-10 finish in as many tournaments as a Pirate.

As a team, Seton Hall shot a 12-over-par, 300, in the final round on Sunday to finish third among 13 competing teams. The Pirates fired a 19-over-par, 292-291-300-883, for the two-day event, finishing 19 strokes behind the host and team champion, Princeton. Columbia finished second at 15-over-par. A pair of BIG EAST competitors were also in the field. Georgetown and St. John's finished 20 and 37 strokes behind the Pirates respectively.

Senior Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, Calif.) finished her tournament with a 5-over-par, 77. For the tournament, she narrowly missed a top-10 finish, tying for 13th with a 6-over-par, 74-71-77-222.

Sophomore Ginevra Ricciardelli (Rome, Italy) had 14 pars on Sunday to finish with a 4-over-par, 76. For the two-day event, she tied for 18th overall with an 8-over-par, 77-71-76-224.

Junior Ludovica Busetto (Padova, Italy) shot an 8-over-par, 80, in the final round today. Â For the tournament, she tied for 37th with a 12-over-par, 72-76-80-228.Â

Only one stroke behind Busetto, was freshman Ana Sarrias Pro (Cadiz, Spain). She turned in her finest round of the tournament, using four birdies to bolster a solid 3-over-par, 75, on Sunday. For the three-round event, Sarrias Pro was 13-over-par with an 81-73-75-229.

THE COURSE:
Dating back to 1895, Springdale Golf Club is one of the oldest in New Jersey. Designed by Gerard Lambert and revised by William Flynn in 1926, the walkable course requires precision shot-making and has superior conditions and playability. The property, which was originally private farmland, was purchased by the Class of 1886 and gifted to Princeton University with the expectation of establishing one of the first courses in the region. The private club has a close relationship with the University, and counts many university professors, administrators and students among its members.  With a fine and experienced PGA staff, the club hosts numerous tournaments, collegiate matches, clinics and golf outings every year.Â

Teams will played five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

In addition to Seton Hall and two teams from host Princeton, the field was comprised of 10 other teams including: Albany, Columbia, Dartmouth, Fairleigh Dickinson, Harvard, Penn, Rollins and Yale. A pair of BIG EAST opponents, Georgetown and St. John's are also in the field.
