Park-Lane scored a game-high 30 points and Espinoza-Hunter notched her 1,000th career point.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) had a season-high 30 points, and Andra Espinoza-Hunter (Ossining, N.Y.) recorded her 1,000th career point as the Seton Hall women's basketball team routed Providence, 62-42, on Sunday.
Seton Hall used their best defensive effort of the season to record their first BIG EAST road victory of the season. The Pirates forced 20 turnovers and held the Friars to just 25.9% shooting from the floor, including 0-for-11 from three-point range.
Park-Lane was brilliant, going for 30 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals in a stellar all-around game. Espinoza-Hunter finished with 11 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Senior Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) tallied a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to go with five blocks.
The Story:
Seton Hall started the game with stifling defense, holding Providence to just one made field goal in their first nine attempts over the game's first 8:10. During that time, the Pirates built a 14-3 lead. The Hall also forced six turnovers in the opening frame as it took a 19-10 advantage into the second quarter.
Leading 25-20, Seton Hall went on a 10-2 run, with the last seven points coming from Park-Lane, to give the Pirates a commanding 35-22 lead with 2:24 left in the second quarter. Providence scored the last five points of the half to close the gap to 35-27 at the break. The Pirates forced 15 PC turnovers in the first half and held the Friars without a made three-pointer (0-5).
Park-Lane was fouled shooting a three-pointer and made all three free-throws to give The Hall a 45-31 advantage with 4:16 left in the third quarter. Up by 11 entering the final 10 minutes, the Pirates didn't take their collective foot off the throttle, holding the Friars to just 2-for-11 shooting and just four total points in the fourth quarter.
Seton Hall will return to action on Wednesday, January 19 when it returns to newly-renovated historic Walsh Gymnasium to host local BIG EAST rival St. John's. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The contest will be streamed by the BIG EAST Digital Network and available to FloSports subscribers.
