LAST WEEK
Seton Hall dropped a pair of BIG EAST Conference matches at Walsh Gym last weekend against stiff competition. The Pirates committed only one more attack error than the No. 15 Bluejays, but the Creighton defense proved too much as they fell, 3-0 (16-25, 16-25, 11-25), on Friday in Walsh Gymnasium. No. 15 Creighton collected 57 digs, a season-high for a Seton Hall opponent in a three-set match, and held the Pirates to a .081 attack percentage. Although the Bluejays committed only one less attack error, 14-to-13, they were far more efficient, registering a .321 attack percentage for the match.
Â
Junior Laila Wallace (Munster, Ind.) and sophomore Jenna Walsh (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) led The Hall with five kills apiece. Senior Jennifer Giron (Benicia, Calif.) had a team-high 11 digs to go with four assists.
Â
Giron tied for the match-high with 13 digs, but The Hall fell to Xavier, 3-0 (18-25, 15-25, 18-25) on Saturday. Giron tied for the match-high with 13 digs to go with six assists. Sophomore Jenna Walsh (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) tied for the match-high with 10 kills. She also had five kills and two blocks.

SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S
Seton Hall and St. John's will meet for the 39th time in history on Wednesday. The Red Storm own a slim 20-18 lead in the all-time series, and have dominated in recent years winning eight of the last nine matches.
Â
Earlier this year, junior Bianca Bucciarelli (Carate Brianza, Italy) erupted for a career-high 20 kills, but the Pirates fell at St. John's, 3-1 (16-25, 24-26, 26-24, 22-25), on Oct. 12. After a rough first set for The Hall, the Pirates and Red Storm played three very competitive sets, which featured 21 ties and eight lead changes. The Pirates showed character in outlasting St. John's in set three after a heart-breaking set two loss, but couldn't find the equalizer in set four.
Â
Bucciarelli had a career-high 20 kills to go with five digs and two blocks. Walsh tallied 14 kills, only four attack errors, four digs, three aces and three blocks in a strong all-around match. Junior Taylor Jakubowski (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) finished with 27 assists and eight digs.
Â
St. John's enters this match with a 16-9 overall record and a 7-5 mark in BIG EAST play. They've lost three straight matches, but they were all against the top three teams in the conference, Creighton, Marquette and Xavier. Most recently, the Red Storm was swept by No. 15 Creighton on Sunday. Georgia Walther and Rachele Rastelli currently rank No. 2 and No. 3 in the BIG EAST in kills per set.
