Sha'Lynn Hagans led four Pirates who scored in double-figures.
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's basketball team forced 30 turnovers and held Rider to just 11 first half points in a 78-40 victory at Walsh Gym on Friday for its fifth straight victory.
Â
With the score tied at two, The Hall went on a 23-3 run to close out the first quarter and never looked back.
Â
Senior Sha'Lynn Hagans (Manassas, Va.) led four Pirates who reached double-figures in scoring with 16 points. Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.), Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) and Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) also had at least 10 points.Â
Â
THE STORY:
Offense was hard to come by early in the contest as the teams combined to shoot 2-for-11 through the first five minutes. The Pirates found their scoring touch, however, and went on a 23-3 run to close out the first quarter. The Hall's stifling defense held the Broncs to just 2-for-9 shooting in the first 10 minutes and forced 14 turnovers.
Â
The offensive onslaught didn't end in the first quarter as The Hall used a 15-2 run in the second, capped by a putback by Baines to take a commanding 42-9 advantage with 1:54 left before halftime. The Hall took a 44-11 lead into the break. The Pirates held Rider to 0-for-11 shooting from three-point range in the first half and just 20.8% shooting overall.
Â
In the second half, the Pirates were able to rest many of their regulars, and still Seton Hall's lead never dipped below 30 points.
Â
THE NUMBERS:
Seton Hall will return to action on Sunday, December 11 when it travels to Orlando to take on non-conference foe UCF. Tip is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET. The contest will be streamed live by ESPN+ and can be heard at 89.5 FM WSOU or wsou.net.
