South Orange, N.J. – Seton Hall swimming and diving head coach, Derek Sapp, has announced the addition of Ben Mitchell to the Seton Hall coaching staff as a diving coach.
Mitchell returns to South Orange after a very successful career on the boards for the Pirates. A four-year member of the swimming and diving team, Mitchell was a four-time BIG EAST Champion having swept both the 1M and 3M dives in the 2014 and 2015 BIG EAST Championships. Mitchell is also the current program record holder for his scores in both the 1M and 3M six-dive and 12-dive events.
A 2015 graduate of Seton Hall with a degree in Criminal Justice, Mitchell was awarded the 2015 BIG EAST Scholar Athlete Award for his accolades both in the pool and in the classroom. Mitchell was also twice-named the BIG EAST's Most Outstanding Diver for his performances at the 2014 and 2015 conference championships. The Pennsylvania-native, Mitchell, was also honored as the Seton Hall Senior Male Student-Athlete of the Year in 2015, the Seton Hall Co-Junior Male Student-Athlete of the Year in 2014 and the Seton Hall Sophomore Male Student-Athlete of the Year in 2013.
Since 2016, Mitchell has served as the Diving Coach at Delaware Valley High School where he graduated from in 2011. Under Mitchell's guidance, the team has compiled a dual meet record of 43-3 while also having produced three PIAA District II Diving champions.
"We're really excited to bring Ben onboard. He brings a wealth of diving knowledge and experience that will help elevate program," Sapp said. "Ben has a rich history of diving success at Seton Hall and within the BIG EAST that will be a great benefit in helping develop our divers."
