PINE MOUNTAIN, GA. – Seton Hall men's golf graduate students Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) and Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) were named the All-BIG EAST First Team on Monday. Junior Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) was named to the Second Team.
Â
Acevedo nets All-BIG EAST honors for a second straight season, but this year, he took his game to a much higher level. The graduate student shaved nearly a full stroke and a half off his scoring average and his 72.57 currently ranks sixth-best in the conference. Acevedo has recorded eight sub-par rounds and two sub-par tournaments during the 2021-22 year. He's recorded four Top-10 finishes, including a fourth-place tie with a career-best 7-under-par, 69-67-73-209, at the Hartford Hawks Invitational. Acevedo currently ranks sixth in Pirate history with 20 career sub-par rounds and ranks in the Top-10 in career scoring average.
Â
Tait's fifth year has merely been the exclamation point on an impressive career. The England native shaved more than two strokes off his senior scoring average and is currently shooting 72.25 strokes per round, which is fourth-best in the conference. Tait has shot a remarkable 12 sub-par rounds this year in route to four Top-10 finishes. He has registered four sub-par rounds in his last two tournaments, both Top-10 finishes. Tait is on pace to be only the sixth golfer in Seton Hall history to have a career scoring average under 74.00.  No one has played more than his 124 career rounds, and his 26 career sub-par rounds rank third-most all-time.
Â
Xie has collected a team-best five Top-10's this year and his 72.68 scoring average is a career-best which ranks seventh in the BIG EAST Conference. Named BIG EAST Golfer of the Week on March 3, he has registered nine sub-par rounds and three sub-par tournaments this year, including a 4-under-par, 70-72-70-212 at the Loyola Intercollegiate at the start of the spring season.
