Walsh collects a career-high 16 kills and Lucas adds 14 more in The Hall's four-set win.
PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore Jenna Walsh (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) had a career-high 16 kills and junior Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) added 14 more as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team downed Delaware, 3-1 (25-15, 15-25, 25-14, 27-25), on Saturday.

The Pirates improve to 2-0 on the young season for the first time since 2012 as they outlasted Delaware, 27-25, in the match-clinching fourth set. Seton Hall wins the Temple Invitational as the only one of the three teams to emerge undefeated. Sophomore Maddie Klungel (Napa, Calif.) was named tournament Most Valuable Player, while both Walsh and Lucas earned All-Tournament Team status.

Walsh had 16 kills had a match-high 16 kills to go with six digs, while Lucas had 14 kills, only two attack errors and an impressive .444 attack percentage. Klungel had a team-high 30 assists along with seven digs, five kills and two blocks in a second-straight strong all-around performance. Sophomore Anna Holland (Waukesha, Wis.) finished with a match-best 16 digs.

SET 1:
For the second straight day to open the season, The Hall dominated the opening set, and never trailed, in route to a 25-14 victory. The Pirates scored seven of the first nine points of the set and didn't look back. Delaware cut Seton Hall's lead to 19-14, but the Pirates finished the set with six straight points. Seton Hall had a .350 attack percentage in the opening set, compared to -.032 for the Blue Hens.

SET 2:
A kill by freshman Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkey) put The Hall up 7-3 in set two, but Delaware responded with a set-changing 16-3 run and grabbed a commanding 19-11 advantage. A kill by Klungel cut the Blue Hen's lead to 22-14, but Delaware closed out the set with three of the final four points to win, 25-15. Delaware had a much better set offensively, using 17 kills and only three attack errors to put up a .467 attack percentage. The Hall hit just .114.

SET 3:
The third set was lopsided once again, but the Pirates were the clear aggressors. Seton Hall had 15 kills, only one attack error and a .452 attack percentage in route to an easy 25-14 victory. Delaware grabbed an early 5-3 lead in set three, but The Hall responded with an 11-2 run and never trailed again. Another kill by Walsh gave the Pirates a commanding 22-12 lead, and they cruised to a 25-14 victory.

SET 4:
The fourth set was the closest of the match with the teams combining for 14 ties and five lead changes. With the set knotted at 20, the Pirates scored three of the next four points, and a kill by Walsh gave them a 23-21 advantage. Delaware however, scored the next two to tie the set at 23. The Pirates then entered match point twice, but the Blue Hens were able to find the equalizer. With the score tied at 25, a Lucas kill put The Hall in match point for a third time, and a Delaware attack error proved to be the match winner for the Pirates.

Seton Hall will return to action on Tuesday, Aug. 30 when it makes its 2022 Walsh Gym debut. The Pirates will host Hofstra at 7:00 p.m. ET. The contest will be streamed live by the Pirate Sports Network on FloSports.
