
Wallace, Walsh Fuel Pirates in Princeton Setback

FAIRFIELD, CONN. – Junior Laila Wallace (Munster, Ind.) and sophomore Jenna Walsh (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) combined for 26 kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to Princeton, 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 16-25, 23-25), on Saturday in the Sacred Heart Invitational finale.

The Hall tied the match with a convincing set two victory, but dropped sets three and four to fall to 6-3 on the season.

Walsh had 13 kills, only two attack errors and four digs, while Wallace had a career-high 13 kills, only two attack errors, four blocks and a team-best .550 attack percentage.

Sophomore Anna Holland (Waukesha, Wis.) had a season-high 29 digs to go with three assists. Sophomore Maddie Klungel (Napa, Calif.) narrowly missed a double-double with 21 assists, nine digs and two blocks.

SET 1:
The opening set was a barn-burner featuring 17 ties and seven lead changes. Down 20-18, the Pirates scored three straight and a kill by Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkey) gave them a 21-20 lead. Princeton responded in a big way, scoring five of the final six points to win set one, 25-22.

SET 2:
Trailing 8-5, the Pirates went on an 8-2 run, and a kill by Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) gave them a 13-10 advantage. Leading 19-17, The Hall scored three straight, and a kill by Jenna Walsh extended its lead to 22-17. Back-to-back kills by Wallace closed out a 25-19 second-set victory for The Hall. The Pirates held the Tigers to just .077 attacking in the second frame.

A kill by Bianca Bucciarelli (Carate Brianza, Italy) cut The Hall's deficit to 12-9, but Princeton responded with four straight points to extend their lead to 16-9. From there, the Pirates couldn't get closer than a five-point deficit for the remainder of the set in a 25-16 set three loss. Princeton had a .375 attack percentage in set three, while the Pirates attacked at only a .050 clip.

Seton Hall led for the majority of the early goings of the set. A kill by Walsh gave the Pirates a 14-11 lead, but Princeton bounced back and tied the set at 15. Ahead 19-18, the Pirates scored three straight to grab a 22-18 advantage. The Tigers responded with five straight points to take a 23-22 lead. Another kill by Walsh tied the set at 23, but Princeton scored the final two points of the match to win, 25-23.

Seton Hall will return to action when it hosts the Seton Hall Classic next weekend. The Pirates will face Central Connecticut State on Friday before welcoming Dartmouth and NJIT on Saturday. All three of Seton Hall's contests will be streamed live by the Pirate Sports Network and shown on FloSports.
