
Zavagli Fuels Pirates Through Two Rounds at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior Ginevra Zavagli (Rome, Italy) shot a Pirate-best 1-over-par, 72, in Saturday's second round to pace the Seton Hall women's golf team to a fifth place standing after two rounds of the Princeton Invitational.

Zavagli opened the day with a birdie and 12 pars to fuel a 4-over-par, 75, in round one. She shaved off three strokes in the afternoon, allowing blemishes on only two holes in route to a 1-over-par, 72. Zavagli is currently in 12th place among 71 individual golfers with a 5-over-par, 75-72-147. Princeton's Yanjun Liu is the individual leader at a remarkable 7-under-par.

As a team, the Pirates were consistent on Saturday, shooting a 16-over-par, 300, in round one, followed by a 17-over-par, 301, in round two. They're currently tied for fifth place with Dartmouth after two rounds with a 33-over-par, 300-301-601. Yale is the team leader at 3-over-par.

Two BIG EAST opponents are also in the field. Georgetown is currently in fourth place just seven strokes ahead of The Hall, while St. John's is in ninth place, 12 strokes behind the Pirates.

A pair of Pirates, senior Ludovica Busetto (Padova, Italy) and freshman Ashni Solanki (Melbourne, Australia) are tied for 31st place at 10-over-par. Busetto had 13 pars in round one, followed by three birdies in round two. After two rounds, she's a consistent 10-over-par with a 76-76-152. Solanki improved as her day progressed. She shot a 7-over-par, 78, in round one, but used a birdie and 13 pars to fuel a 3-over-par, 74, in round two. Solanki is 10-over-par with a 78-74-152.

Graduate student Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, Calif.) had a birdie and 11 pars in round one to assist a 5-over-par, 76. In round two, she slipped a bit, finishing with an 8-over-par, 79. With 18 holes left, she's tied for 41st place with a 13-over-par, 76-79-155.

Sophomore Ana Sarrias Pro (Cadiz, Spain) had an up and down Saturday. She had a remarkable five birdies on her way to a 2-over-par, 73, in the morning, but stumbled to a 13-over-par, 84, in the afternoon. Sarrias Pro is currently tied for 45th with a 15-over-par, 73-84-157.

Seton Hall also had a pair of freshmen competing as individuals at Princeton. Lara Todorovic (Belgrade, Serbia) is currently 22-over-par following an 81-83-164, while Anne-Sofie Ekman (Copenhagen, Denmark) is 26-over-par with an 83-85-168.

THE COURSE:
Dating back to 1895, Springdale Golf Club is one of the oldest in New Jersey. Designed by Gerard Lambert and revised by William Flynn in 1926, the walkable course requires precision shot-making and has superior conditions and playability. The property, which was originally private farmland, was purchased by the Class of 1886 and gifted to Princeton University with the expectation of establishing one of the first courses in the region. The private club has a close relationship with the University, and counts many university professors, administrators and students among its members.  With a fine and experienced PGA staff, the club hosts numerous tournaments, collegiate matches, clinics and golf outings every year.Â

Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

In addition to Seton Hall and two teams from host Princeton, the field is comprised of 10 other teams including: Albany, Columbia, Dartmouth, Fairleigh Dickinson, Harvard, Holy Cross, Pennsylvania, Princeton and Yale. A pair of BIG EAST opponents, Georgetown and St. John's are also in the field.

The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The field will play two continuous rounds. On Sunday, the field will play one final round, also with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
