Hagans, Pirates Down Providence for Fourth Straight Win

Hagans goes for a career-high 22 points as the good times continue to roll for The Hall.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Sha'Lynn Hagans (Manassas, Va.) erupted for a career-high 22 points and the Seton Hall women's basketball team defeated Providence, 76-60, on Sunday for its fourth straight win, and the 11th in its last 12 games.

Hagans finished with 22 points on 7-for-13 shooting and was 3-for-5 from three-point range and a perfect 5-for-5 at the free-throw line. She also had six rebounds and four steals.

Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) had 19 points and a game-high nine assists with only two turnovers, while Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) tallied 18 points.

THE STORY:
With the score tied at seven early, The Hall went on an 8-2 run to grab a 15-9 advantage with 3:01 left in the first quarter. The Pirates found success despite Cooks picking up her second foul just over 5:00 into the contest. The Hall took a 22-14 lead into the second quarter.

Just nine seconds into the second quarter, senior Victoria Keenan (Bethlehem, Pa.) connected on a three-pointer, her first points in over two years, and the Pirates' bench erupted. Four minutes later, a layup by Jala Jordan (Philadelphia, Pa.) gave The Hall its largest lead of the half, 34-18, with 5:51 left before halftime. Providence clamped down on defense for the remainder of the half, holding the Pirates to just 2-for-11 shooting in the final 5:00, but The Hall still took a 38-26 lead into the break.

Hagans hit a three-pointer to put The Hall up, 43-29, but Providence responded with an 8-0 run to cut the Pirates' lead to 43-37 with 7:07 left in the third and prompt a Seton Hall timeout. That's when Park-Lane took over. The Pirate point guard outscored Providence 8-0, including a pair of made three-pointers, to give The Hall a 51-37 lead with 5:08 left in the quarter. The Friars made another run late in the third, cutting their deficit to just five points with 1:34 to go, but The Hall closed the quarter with a 7-0 run, capped by a thrilling four-point play as Hagans was fouled while hitting a corner three-pointer as time expired.

In the fourth quarter, the Friars cut their deficit to 10 points, but never got it to single digits.

Seton Hall will return to action on Wednesday, January 11 when it travels to BIG EAST rival Creighton. Tip is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET. The contest will be televised nationally by FS1. It'll also be available on 89.5 FM WSOU or wsou.net.

- Seton Hall improves to 13-4 overall and 6-1 in the BIG EAST, while Providence falls to 10-7 overall and 1-5 in conference play. The Pirates have now won 11 of their last 12 games.
- The Pirates are now 6-1 in BIG EAST Conference play for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
