
Pirates Drop Key Match at DePaul, 3-0

CHICAGO – Senior Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) had a team-high 10 kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at DePaul, 3-0 (20-25, 22-25, 17-25), in a match with major BIG EAST Tournament implications on Friday.

The loss drops the Pirates to 8-9 in the BIG EAST and into a tie with Villanova for sixth place in the standings with one day left in the regular season. Seton Hall will play at 15-2 Marquette tomorrow, while the Wildcats go to 2-15 Connecticut.

Lucas had a team-high 10 kills, only two errors, a .421 attack percentage and three blocks. Senior Bianca Bucciarelli (Carate Brianza, Italy) had eight kills and 10 digs. Junior Hanna Tulli (Collegeville, Pa.) tallied seven kills, no attack errors, a .583 attack percentage and three blocks.

Trailing 11-8, The Hall went on a 6-0 run, and a block by Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkey) and Lucas put it on top, 14-11. DePaul answered, however, with three straight to tie the set at 14. With the score tied at 20, DePaul closed out the victory with a 5-0 run. The Hall fell, 25-20, despite 10 kills and only two attack errors.

A kill by Madeline Matheny (Wilmington, Del.) gave The Hall an early 9-8 lead in set two, but DePaul answered with a 6-2 run to grab a 14-11 advantage and never trailed again. Trailing 22-17, The Hall went on a 5-1 run, and an ace by Hadlee Ackerman (Atlanta, Ga.) cut its deficit to just one, 23-22. The Blue Demons, however, scored the next two points to win set two, 25-22. The Hall's efficiency dropped in the second set as they had only a .083 attack percentage.

A kill by Tulli gave the Pirates an early 8-5 advantage, but DePaul answered with a 5-0 run to grab the lead and force an early Seton Hall timeout. Another kill by Lucas cut The Hall's deficit to 16-14, but the Blue Demons scored four straight to take a commanding 20-14 lead. DePaul went on to a 25-17 third set win. The Hall was better in set three offensively, but DePaul had a huge effort with 17 kills, only one attack error and a .567 attack percentage to close out the Pirates.

The Pirates will return to action tomorrow when they travel to Milwaukee for a match at Marquette. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
