The Hall closes its season with eight BIG EAST wins, its most since 2017.
MILWAUKEE, WIS. – Freshman Rylee Nelson (Mazeppa, Minn.) had a team-high 18 digs and junior Jenna Walsh (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) had nine kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at Marquette, 3-0 (8-25, 11-25, 12-25), on Saturday to close the 2023 season.
Â
The loss eliminates the Pirates from BIG EAST Tournament contention on the regular season's final day. Seton Hall finishes the season tied for sixth place with Villanova, but the Wildcats clinch the final spot by virtue of the head-to-head tie-breaker against the Pirates. Nova defeated The Hall in four sets in their only meeting this season on Oct. 20. Still, at 8-10, The Hall can boast its best conference performance since 2017.Â
Â
Nelson had 18 digs, one shy of her career-high, and two assists. Walsh led the offense with nine kills and only three attack errors.
Â
SET 1:
A kill by Hanna Tulli (Collegeville, Pa.) followed by an ace from Hadlee Ackerman (Atlanta, Ga.) tied the set at five early in set one, but Marquette responded with a set-ending 20-3 run to stun the Pirates. Seton Hall had only four kills in the opening set and a -.171 attack percentage. Marquette had a .243 attack percentage, which would've been higher if not for nine digs from Nelson in round one.
Â
SET 2:
Similar to set one, a kill by Walsh tied the set at two, but the Golden Eagles followed with an 11-1 run to grab a commanding 13-3 advantage. Marquette had a .368 attack percentage and went on for a second-straight 25-11 victory.Â
Â
SET 3:
A kill by Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) cut The Hall's deficit to 14-8, but Marquette then went on an 8-1 run to grab a commanding 22-9 advantage.  The Golden Eagles went on to win set three, 25-12.Â
