THE STORY:
Seton Hall's defense was smothering early, holding UNLV, a team that entered today's contest averaging 84 points per game, without a point for the first 4:48. By the time the Lady Rebels collected their first made field goal The Hall had a 15-2 lead with only 1:28 left in the first quarter. In one of their best defensive quarters in recent memory, The Hall held the Lady Rebels to just 3-for-15 shooting and took a 17-8 lead into the second quarter.
Â
UNLV cut The Hall's lead to nine with 8:51 left in the second quarter, but the Pirates then held the Lady Rebels to just one field goal over the next 6:11. Satterfield scored in the post to cap an 11-1 run and give The Hall a commanding 35-14 advantage with 3:41 to go before halftime. A UNLV three-pointer cut their deficit to 35-20 with 2:15 before the break, but the Pirates closed the half with a 7-1 run to take a 42-21 lead into halftime.
Â
The Lady Rebels had no answer for The Hall in the paint in the first half as the Pirates outscored UNLV, 26-to-8 in the post. That advantage grew to 42-to-20 by the game's end.
Â
UNLV got The Hall's lead down to 15 points with 6:30 left in the third quarter, but they never got closer. Seton Hall methodically added to its lead and took a 68-44 advantage into the fourth.
