
Park-Lane, Baines Lead Pirates Past Xavier, 72-59

After a Senior Day ceremony, the Pirates won their 10th game in BIG EAST play.
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) and Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) registered double-doubles to lift the Seton Hall women's basketball team to a 72-59 victory over Xavier on Senior Day, Saturday in Walsh Gym.

A 9-0 run early in the third quarter enabled the Pirates to pull away. The victory improves Seton Hall to 10-8 in the BIG EAST, its fourth straight year with double-digit wins in conference games.

Park-Lane notched her second straight double-double and fourth of the season with a game-high 20 points on an efficient 9-for-15 shooting to go with 10 assists. Baines tallied her third double-double in 2022-23 with 19 points on 9-for-14 shooting with 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals.

THE STORY:
Xavier had its largest lead of the game with 2:55 left in the first quarter, 11-6, but the Pirates answered with seven straight points, and a fast-break layup by Baines put The Hall in front, 13-11. The contest was knotted at 13 after 10 minutes.

Trailing 22-19, The Hall went on a 12-2 run on buckets by four different Pirates, and a layup by Baines put it in front, 31-24, with 2:09 to go before halftime. Both teams shot 50.0% from the field in the first half with the Pirates taking a 36-31 lead into the break.Â

The Hall finally took control in the third. Leading 39-33, the Pirates went on a 9-0 run, and a driving layup by Amari Wright (Jacksonville, Fla.) with 5:57 left in the quarter gave them a commanding 48-33 advantage. Down 52-39, Xavier closed the third with six straight points to shave its deficit to just seven, 52-45, as the game headed to the fourth.

In the final 10 minutes, the Pirates' lead never dipped below eight points. Ahead 56-48, Seton Hall put the game out of reach with an 8-2 burst. A layup by Sha'Lynn Hagans (Manassas, Va.) capped the run and put The Hall up, 64-50.

THE NUMBERS:
