After a Senior Day ceremony, the Pirates won their 10th game in BIG EAST play.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) and Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) registered double-doubles to lift the Seton Hall women's basketball team to a 72-59 victory over Xavier on Senior Day, Saturday in Walsh Gym.

A 9-0 run early in the third quarter enabled the Pirates to pull away. The victory improves Seton Hall to 10-8 in the BIG EAST, its fourth straight year with double-digit wins in conference games.

Park-Lane notched her second straight double-double and fourth of the season with a game-high 20 points on an efficient 9-for-15 shooting to go with 10 assists. Baines tallied her third double-double in 2022-23 with 19 points on 9-for-14 shooting with 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals.

THE STORY:
Xavier had its largest lead of the game with 2:55 left in the first quarter, 11-6, but the Pirates answered with seven straight points, and a fast-break layup by Baines put The Hall in front, 13-11. The contest was knotted at 13 after 10 minutes.

Trailing 22-19, The Hall went on a 12-2 run on buckets by four different Pirates, and a layup by Baines put it in front, 31-24, with 2:09 to go before halftime. Both teams shot 50.0% from the field in the first half with the Pirates taking a 36-31 lead into the break.

The Hall finally took control in the third. Leading 39-33, the Pirates went on a 9-0 run, and a driving layup by Amari Wright (Jacksonville, Fla.) with 5:57 left in the quarter gave them a commanding 48-33 advantage. Down 52-39, Xavier closed the third with six straight points to shave its deficit to just seven, 52-45, as the game headed to the fourth.

In the final 10 minutes, the Pirates' lead never dipped below eight points. Ahead 56-48, Seton Hall put the game out of reach with an 8-2 burst. A layup by Sha'Lynn Hagans (Manassas, Va.) capped the run and put The Hall up, 64-50.

THE NUMBERS:

Seton Hall was 31-for-62 (50.0%) from the floor for the game, while Xavier was 26-for-55 (47.3%). The Hall was 5-for-17 (29.4%) from three-point range, while the Musketeers were 1-for-6 (16.7%).
Park-Lane had a double-double with a game-high 20 points on 9-for-15 shooting from the field and a game-high 10 assists.
Seton Hall out-rebounded Xavier, 35-to-28, including an 11-to-7 edge on the offensive glass and an 10-to-5 advantage in second-chance points.
Baines notched a double-double with 19 points on 9-for-14 shooting to go with a game-high 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Seton Hall was 5-for-7 (71.4%) from the free-throw line, while Xavier was 6-for-9 (66.7%).
Wright finished with six points, three assists, two steals and matched her career-high with six rebounds.
Seton Hall forced 18 turnovers, while Xavier forced 13. The Pirates had a 17-to-15 edge on points-off-turnovers.
Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) finished with 10 points, six rebounds and three assists.

THE NOTES:

Seton Hall improves to 17-11 overall and 10-8 in the BIG EAST, while Xavier drops to 7-19 overall and 0-17 in conference play.
The Hall is now 18-3 all-time against the Musketeers and has won nine in a row in the series.
Seton Hall improves to 17-3 this season when out-shooting its opponent and 16-4 when shooting better than 40.0% from the field.
Park-Lane's double-double is her second straight, her fourth of the season and 12^th of her career.
Baines's double-double is her third of the season and her career.
With two points today, Alexia Allesch (Basking Ridge, N.J.) reached the 500-points mark for her career.
Xavier is the 11^th opponent Seton Hall has held to 60 or fewer points this season. The Pirates have won all 11 games.
The Hall improves to 116-44 in Walsh Gym during the Bozzella era. Furthermore, the Pirates are now 58-33 against BIG EAST opponents at home.
With six rebounds tonight, Cooks surpassed the 800-rebounds milestone for her career.
