2022-23 Meetings:
Seton Hall 79, Butler 45 (F) – December 31, 2022 (Walsh Gym)
Â
EARLIER THIS YEAR AGAINST BUTLER
Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) and Park-Lane tallied 19 points apiece and The Hall turned a four-point deficit after the first quarter into a convincing 79-45 victory over Butler in Walsh Gym on New Year's Eve.
Â
The Hall used a game-changing 16-0 run spanning the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second to take the lead for good. The Pirates have now won nine of their last 10 games.
Â
Cooks was perfect on Saturday, going 8-for-8 from the field, including 3-for-3 from three-point range for 19 points to go with a team-best eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks in only 20 minutes. Park-Lane had 19 points to go with a game-high eight assists against just one turnover. Baines had a strong all-around game with 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting with five rebounds and four assists.
Â
SCOUTING BUTLER
This year, the Bulldogs were picked to finish tied for ninth in the BIG EAST Preseason coaches' poll. Butler lost three starters to graduation, but added a talented freshman crop and a First Team All-MVC transfer from Valparaiso, as well as a pair of transfers from IUPUI, including All-Horizon League selection Rachel McLimore.
Â
This season, the Bulldogs have already far exceeded their 2021-22 success and enter the weekend with a 10-17 record overall. They're currently playing some of the best basketball they've played all season, having won three straight entering Friday. Most recently, the Bulldogs routed Xavier, 60-43, on Tuesday. McLimore leads Butler with 11.6 points per game. The Bulldogs are currently allowing their opponents to shoot 44.6% from the field this season, which ranks worst in the BIG EAST. They're also last in turnover margin.
Â
