3/26/2023 10:00:00 AM | Women's Golf
JOHNS CREEK, GA. – The Seton Hall women's golf team will return to action on March 27-28 for three rounds of golf at the Georgia State Spring Invitational at Rivermont Golf Club.
Â
Tournament Details:
GEORGIA STATE INVITATIONAL
Host:Â Georgia State University
Location:Â Johns Creek, Ga.
Course:Â Rivermont Golf Club
Course Vitals:Â Par-72, 6,255 yards
Dates:Â March 27-28, 2023
Â
THE COURSE:
Rivermont's centerpiece is the Championship 18-Hole Golf Course originally designed by Joe Lee which underwent a complete re-design by golf course designer, Michael Riley in 2006. The improvements transformed what was already an excellent layout and course into one of the most critically acclaimed courses in Georgia today. Over the last forty-seven years the course has maintained the integrity and beauty of the natural environment and continues to challenge to the low handicapper as well as the new player. Continued improvements over the years, specifically in 2015-2016 and 2019-2020 have helped elevate Rivermont's reputation among golfers both locally and even nationally.
Â
Rivermont has been honored to host nearly thirty qualifiers for the United States Golf Association (local qualifying for the US Open and sectional qualifying for the US Senior Open, the US Mid-Amateur, the US Women's Mid-Amateur and the Men's Four-Ball Championship) as well as more than a dozen Atlanta Amateur Championships for the Georgia State Golf Association. We have also hosted events for the Georgia Section of the PGA, the Atlanta Junior Golf Association and the Southern Golf Association. In 2018, Rivermont hosted the Georgia State Golf Association Junior Championship in June and in 2019 Rivermont Golf Club received an award as the "Best Golf Club" in Johns Creek. In 2023, Rivermont will host the Georgia State Amateur Championship.
THE FIELD
In addition to Seton Hall and host Georgia State, the field is comprised of 14 other teams including: Albany, Appalachian State, Boston College, Bradley, Charleston Southern, Charlotte, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb, Murray State, Troy and Western Carolina.
Â
THE FORMAT
Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.
Â
THE LINEUP
Seton Hall will be bringing the following lineup to Georgia:
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Graduate student Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, Calif.) shot a 4-over-par, 76, on Sunday to lift the Pirates to a ninth-place tie at the Low Country Intercollegiate. Fouratt had a pair of birdies and 11 pars to fuel her stellar final round. For the tournament, she tied for 28th place with a 16-over-par, 84-76-160.
Â
As a team, the Pirates shot a 33-over-par, 321, in the final round. For the tournament, The Hall tied with Samford for ninth place with a 62-over-par, 317-321-638. Quinnipiac won the team title at 43-over-par. Golfers have been dealing with high winds and poor weather all tournament, which is why scores were elevated across the field.
Â
The Pirates' top individual performer for the tournament was Ludovica Busetto (Padova, Italy). The senior had 11 pars today in route to a 7-over-par, 79. For the tournament, she placed 10th among 105 individual golfers with a 10-over-par, 75-79-154.Â
Â
LAST TIME AT RIVERMONT
Last year, former Pirate Margot Bechardergue fired a 2-under-par, 70, in the final round to fuel the Pirates to a fifth-place finish at the 2022 Georgia State Spring Invitational. For the tournament, Bechadergue tied for 21st place with a 14-over-par, 80-80-70-230.
Â
As a team, the Pirates rocketed up the leader board in the final round. Their third-round, 294, was the lowest in the field, which enabled them to go from 10th place after 36 holes to a fifth-place finish. The Hall finished just six strokes behind the team champion, Xavier.
