COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – Seton Hall graduate student Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) has been named to the women's 2023 USA 3x3 U23 Nations Leagues team set to compete at the 2023 3x3 U23 Nations League, July 24-30, in Rancagua, Chile.
Â
In addition to Baines, the 2023 USA 3x3 Women's U23 Nations League Team features NCAA Division I athletes, including Dyaisha Fair (Syracuse), Leilani Kapinus (Penn State), Madison Scott (Ole Miss), Sydney Taylor (Louisville) and Hailey Van Lith (LSU). Baines, who played for Seton Hall at 2023 USA Basketball 3X Nationals in May, joins Fair, Kapinus and Taylor in making their USA Basketball international debuts.
Â
The 2023 USA 3x3 U23 Nations League teams will compete in the FIBA 3x3 U23 Nations League Americas Conference. The competition will feature six three-game tournaments in seven days. The six team members can substitute as needed for each day's four-person entry. The winning team in each of 13 conference events hosted worldwide will qualify for the FIBA 3x3 U23 Nations League Final Sept. 13-15 in Mongolia.Â
Â
Baines is coming off a strong first season at Seton Hall. The 6-foot-1 forward averaged 8.5 points per game in BIG EAST play and ranked second in the conference with a .561 field goal percentage. Baines erupted for a career-high 29 points on 12-for-16 shooting at DePaul on Feb. 15, and averaged 15.4 points and 7.8 rebounds over the season's final eight games.
Â
The 2023 3x3 U23 Nations League will stream live on YouTube at www.youtube.com/fiba3x3.Â
Â
Different than five-on-five, 3x3 is played on a half-court with a 10-minute game clock and 12-second shot clock. Play is continuous, as teams "clear" the ball behind the 2-point line following a made basketball, defensive rebound or steal. The first team to score 21 points via 1-pointer field goals or 2-pointers behind the arc is victorious; or if time expires then the team leading wins.
