PRINCETON, N.J. - The Seton Hall women' golf team will open the 2023 fall season on Saturday, September 16 for the first two of three rounds of golf at the 2023 Princeton Invitational at Springdale Golf Club.
Â
Tournament Details:
PRINCETON INVITATIONAL
Host:Â Princeton University
Location:Â Princeton, N.J.
Course:Â Springdale Golf Club
Course Vitals:Â Par-71, 6,109 yards
Dates:Â September 16-17, 2023
Â
THE COURSE:
Dating back to 1895, Springdale Golf Club is one of the oldest in New Jersey. Designed by Gerard Lambert and revised by William Flynn in 1926, the walkable course requires precision shot-making and has superior conditions and playability. The property, which was originally private farmland, was purchased by the Class of 1886 and gifted to Princeton University with the expectation of establishing one of the first courses in the region. The private club has a close relationship with the University, and counts many university professors, administrators and students among its members.  With a fine and experienced PGA staff, the club hosts numerous tournaments, collegiate matches, clinics and golf outings every year.Â
Â
THE FORMAT:
Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.
Â
THE FIELD:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Princeton, the field is comprised of 10 other teams including: Albany, Boston University, Columbia, Dartmouth, Fairleigh Dickinson, Harvard, Holy Cross and Penn. A pair of BIG EAST opponents, Georgetown and St. John's are also in the field.
Â
THE LINEUP:
Seton Hall will be bringing the following lineup, in order as indicated, to Princeton.
Ginevra Zavagli fired her second-consecutive 1-over-par, 72, in round three to lift the Pirates to a fifth-place finish at the Princeton Invitational in last year's event. Zavagli had only three blemishes on an otherwise dazzling round that featured two birdies and 13 pars. For the tournament, Zavagli was 6-over-par with a 75-72-72-219. She tied for 11th among 71 individual golfers. Zavagli's 6-over-par is just one stroke shy of her career low for a tournament.
Â
Collectively, the Pirates put together their best round of the tournament in round three, an 11-over-par, 295. For the three-round event, The Hall was 44-over-par with a 300-301-295-896. Yale won the team title at 2-over-par.
Â
THE SCHEDULE:Â
The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The field will play two continuous rounds. On Sunday, the field will play one final round, also with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
