OMAHA, NEB. – Graduate student Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) had a game-high 19 points to go with nine rebounds, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team couldn't find its offensive footing late and fell to No. 21 Creighton, 57-49, on Sunday.

The Pirates trailed by as many as 12 points in the third quarter, but battled back thanks to a 10-0 run. Both defenses clamped down in the fourth quarter with each team making only one field goal over the final 10 minutes. Creighton, however, went 8-for-12 from the free-throw line to hold off Seton Hall.

Baines had 19 points on 7-for-14 shooting and nine rebounds. I'yanna Lops (Stamford, Conn.) had six points, a team-high 10 rebounds and two blocks.

THE STORY:
After a defensive first quarter when both teams shot only 33 percent from the field, Creighton found its shooting touch in the second. A three-pointer by Baines cut The Hall's deficit to 18-16 early in the second, but the Bluejays held the Pirates scoreless for the next 5:12, going on a 9-0 run to take a 27-16 lead with under 4:00 to play before halftime. Creighton took a 33-24 lead into the break.

Creighton hit a three-pointer to open the second half, but the Pirates responded with a 10-0 run, and a three-pointer by Gray cut their deficit to just two points, 36-34, with 6:35 left in the third. After falling back down by nine, The Hall closed the third with five straight points, including three made free-throws by Savannah Catalon (Burleston, Texas) with one-tenth of a second left to cut Creighton's leads to 47-43 entering the fourth.

Both teams upped their defensive intensity for the fourth quarter with the teams combining to go only 2-for-25 from the field. The Hall didn't collect its first made field goal until a reverse layup by Baines with 19 seconds left. Creighton was held without a field goal for the final 8:53 of the contest. The Bluejays, however, made eight free-throws in the final quarter and were able to hold off The Hall.

THE NUMBERS:

Seton Hall was 16-for-58 (27.6%) from the floor for the game, while Creighton was 20-for-53 (37.7%). The Hall was 4-for-19 (21.1%) from three-point range, while the Bluejays were 8-for-24 (33.3%).
Baines had a game-high 19 points on 7-for-14 shooting with nine rebounds.
Creighton edged Seton Hall, 40-to-39, in rebounding, but the Pirates had a 13-to-10 advantage on the offensive glass.
Lops had six points, a game-high 10 rebounds and two blocks.
Seton Hall was 13-for-15 (86.7%) from the free-throw line, while Creighton was 9-for-15 (60.0%).
Both teams had only 12 turnovers and scored nine points off them.

THE NOTES:

Seton Hall drops to 12-8 overall and 4-5 in conference games, while Creighton improves to 16-3 overall and 7-2 in the BIG EAST.
The Hall is now 6-18 all-time against Creighton and has won four straight games in the series.
With 10 rebounds today, Lops surpassed the 500-mark for her career.
Lops reached at least 10 rebounds in a single-game for the ninth time in her career.
Today was the 100^th career game played for Satterfield.
Baines led the Pirates in scoring for the 13^th time this season and the fourth game in a row.
