
Roberts-Navarro Fuels Pirates in Setback at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Sophomore Senna Roberts-Navarro (Honolulu, Hawaii) erupted for career-highs of 19 kills and 14 digs, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at Butler, 3-1 (20-25, 25-17, 27-29, 21-25) on Friday.

With the match tied at one set apiece, the Pirates jumped out to a 24-17 third set lead, but the Bulldogs rallied to tie the set at 24, and eventually won the swing third-set, 29-27, to take control of the match.

Roberts-Navarro had a career-best match with 19 kills, 14 digs, and also five blocks. Senior Maddie Klungel (Napa, Calif.) had a double-double with 38 assists and 16 digs to go with two kills and two blocks.Â

SET 1:
A kill by Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) gave The Hall a 15-13 lead in set one, but Butler bounced back with five straight points to take a three-point lead. The Pirates couldn't find the equalizer. A kill by Roberts-Navarro cut Seton Hall's lead to 20-19, but the Bulldogs closed out the set with a 5-1 run. Butler took the opening set, 25-20.

Leading 8-5, The Hall scored five straight, and a block by Roberts-Navarro gave it a 13-5 advantage. After two Butler points, the Pirates collected four straight points and another kill by Roberts-Navarro gave them a 17-7 lead. The Bulldogs cut their deficit to 20-16, but The Hall closed the set with a 5-1 run and a kill by Lucas gave the Pirates a 25-17 victory. The Hall held Butler to a .000 attack percentage in set two.

The Pirates led for the majority of the third set, and a block by Subasili and Maddy Loiselle (Tampa, Fla.) gave them set point at 24-17. Butler, however, rallied with seven straight points to tie the set at 24. The Bulldogs then staved off two set points before winning a dramatic 29-27 set three victory.Â

An ace by Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkiye) gave The Hall an early 2-1 lead, but Butler bounced back and never trailed again.  Seton Hall remained close, but couldn't find the equalizer. A kill by Maddy Loiselle (Tampa, Fla.) cut the Pirates' deficit to 23-21, but the Bulldogs bounced back and scored the final two points of the match.Â

The Pirates will return to action on Friday, Oct. 25 when they return to Walsh Gymnasium to host BIG EAST rival Marquette. The match is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
