WASHINGTON – Quinn Murtha (Cumming, Ga.) took down the program record in the 1-meter dive as the Seton Hall men's swimming and diving team fought to a narrow defeat at Georgetown on Saturday, 157-143.
Murtha's total score of 336.83 earned him the win in the event, taking down the mark of 334.90 set by current diving coach Ben Mitchell back in 2013. It would be the first of two wins on the day for Murtha, as he would also capture the top spot in the 3-meter with a score of 338.25.
In the pool, Kevin Cary (West Chester, Pa.) and Michael Klimaszewski (London, England) each posted multiple victories. Cary would perform strongly in the freestyle events, taking the win in the 200 Free with a time of 1:41.25 and later in the 100 Free in 46.34. Klimaszewski starred in the butterfly events, winning the 200 Fly in 1:52.18 and the 100 Fly in 49.37.
Both would add relay wins as well, with both Cary and Klimaszewski taking part in the winning 400 Free Relay team alongside Toma Adam (Bacau, Romania) and Bryant LaCroix (Bloomsburg, Pa.). Klimaszewski swam the third leg of the 200 Medley Relay team which also consisted of Chris Jackson (Maywood, N.J.), Ben Endersby (Caldwell, N.J.) and Adam, winning in a time of 1:31.88.
Other wins on the day for the Pirates came from Sean Vizzard (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and Ethan Shonk (Mount Joy, Pa.). Vizzard came in first in the 1000 Free with a time of 9:30.54, while Shonk's time of 1:53.07 in the 200 Back delivered him the victory.
The Pirates will now begin preparations for the BIG EAST Championships which will take place Feb. 28-March 2 at IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
