Indianapolis, Ind. – Allie Waggoner (Moorestown, N.J.) became the first Pirate woman to become BIG EAST champion in the 500 Free in 30 years as the Seton Hall women's swimming and diving team wrapped up Day Two of the 2024 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships.
Waggoner's win came in the first event of the night, touching the wall with a time of 4:47.52. This time broke her own program record, which she set earlier this season during the WVU Invite. Waggoner is the first Seton Hall women's swimmer to win the 500 Free at the BIG EAST Championships since Carla Setter did so back in 1994.
In the 50 Free finals, Lea Moeller (New Lenox, Ill.) picked up a fifth-place finish, coming in with a time of 23.25. The Pirates also scored well in the Consolation Final in the event, as Natalie Heim (Middletown, N.J.) placed first and ninth overall with a time of 23.41.
The night capped off with the 200 Free Relay, which saw the Pirates claim a fifth-place finish. Moeller, Madeline Field (Wheaton, Ill.), Josie McCartney (Verona, Wisc.), and Natalie Heim (Middletown, N.J.) combined for a time of 1:34.02 in the event.
After two days of competition, the Pirates find themselves in fifth place overall with 344 total points. Villanova holds the overall lead with 503 points.
