
Pirates Look to Defend Title at UAlbany Invitational

DELMAR, N.Y. – The Seton Hall women's golf team will return to tournament action this weekend for two rounds of golf at the UAlbany Invitational at Normanside Country Club, Oct. 12-13.

THE COURSE
Normanside Country Club opened its golf course in 1927. Â The course was designed by William Harries. Â During its many years of play, it has hosted many New York State Golf Association and United States Golf Association events. Â Notable among them are the 1952 Empire State open and the 1996 NYSGA Mid-Amateur Championship and the 2003 & 2008 NYS Senior Amateur Championship. Â Normanside has also served as a qualifying site for state and national events.

THE FIELD
In addition to Seton Hall and host UAlbany, the field is comprised of 13 other teams including: Boston University, FDU, Hofstra, Holy Cross, Le Moyne, Merrimack, Niagara, Siena, Stonehill and Union College. Also joining the field is BIG EAST rival St. John's.

THE FORMAT
Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

THE LINEUP
Seton Hall will be bringing the following lineup to Albany:
Sophomore Marta Aguliar (Casares Malaga, Spain) shot a 3-over-par, 74, on Oct. 5 to lead the Seton Hall women's golf team in the final round of the Princeton Invitational. Aguilar had two birdies and 11 pars to fuel her final round. For the tournament, she tied for 12th place among 79 individual golfers with a 6-over-par, 74-71-74-219.

As a team, The Hall shot a 23-over-par, 307, in the final round, its best of the tournament. For the three-round event, Seton Hall finished at 85-over-par with a 322-308-307-937. Host Princeton won the team title and was the only program under par at 1-under.Â

LAST TIME AT NORMANSIDE
In only her third collegiate tournament, Aguilar claimed the individual co-championship and lifted the Seton Hall women's golf team to the team title at last fall's UAlbany Great Danes Invitational. Aguliar started her final round three strokes behind a pair of individual leaders, but had two birdies, 10 pars and an eagle on the par-5, No. 9 hole, to fuel a 1-over-par, 71, in the final round. Her remarkable second-round performance enabled her tie Boston University's Christy Chen for the individual championship.

Seton Hall had the second-best round in the field on the second day, an 18-over-par, 298, which enabled it to jump over two teams to win the team title by just one stroke over Boston University. For the tournament, The Hall was 41-over-par with a 303-298-601.Â

THE SCHEDULE
The field will play 18 holes on two days for two rounds total. The Pirates will be paired with golfers from Siena and FDU in round one with a shotgun start scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
