
Aguilar Leads Pirates to Sixth Place at UAlbany Invite

DELMAR, N.Y. – Sophomore Marta Aguilar (Casares Malaga, Spain) shot a 4-over-par, 74, to lift the Seton Hall women's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the 2025 UAlbany Great Danes Invitational on Monday.

Aguilar had 14 pars on Monday in route to a team-best 4-over-par, 70. For the tournament, she tied  for eighth among 80 individual golfers with a 10-over-par, 76-74-150. St. John's Kelly Wu won the individual title at 4-under-par.

The effort is Aguilar's second top-10 finish in three tournaments so far this year, and the eighth of her young career.

As a team, the Pirates had to trudge through a second day of poor weather, but turned in one of the better rounds of the day. The Hall shot a 41-over-par, 321, on Monday. For the tournament, the Pirates placed sixth with a 72-over-par, 311-321-632. Boston University won the team title at 33-over-par. St. John's, Seton Hall's lone BIG EAST competition, came in second at 36-over-par.

Junior Renee Rane (New Delhi, India) had an 11-over-par, 81, on Monday. For the two-day event, she finished at 18-over-par with a 77-81-158.Â

Senior Anne-Sofie Ekman (Copenhagen, Denmark) fired a 12-over-par, 82, in round two. For the tournament, she was 21-over-par with a 79-82-161.

Freshman Isabella Stewart (Wicklow, Ireland) also struggled with the playing conditions, shooting a 14-over-par, 84, on Monday. She finished the 36-hole event with a 23-over-par, 79-84-163.

Rounding out the Pirates' lineup, junior Kasumi Tran (Swansea, Wales) shot a 15-over-par, 85, in round two. She finished the tournament with a 27-over-par, 82-85-167.

Normanside Country Club opened its golf course in 1927. Â The course was designed by William Harries. Â During its many years of play, it has hosted many New York State Golf Association and United States Golf Association events. Â Notable among them are the 1952 Empire State open and the 1996 NYSGA Mid-Amateur Championship and the 2003 & 2008 NYS Senior Amateur Championship. Â Normanside has also served as a qualifying site for state and national events.

In addition to Seton Hall and host UAlbany, the field was comprised of 13 other teams including: Boston University, FDU, Hofstra, Holy Cross, Le Moyne, Merrimack, Niagara, Siena, Stonehill and Union College. Also joining the field is BIG EAST rival St. John's.

Teams played five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.
