Seton Hall will return to the road for a pair of BIG EAST Conference matches this weekend. The Pirates will travel to Storrs, Conn.  for match at Connecticut on Friday, Oct. 3 before heading to Providence for a match the following day. The Hall's contest at UConn will begin at 5:00 p.m., while its match at Providence is a 3:00 p.m. start.

Friday's contest at UConn will be an ESPN+ broadcast, while Saturday's match at Providence will be streamed via Friars Live on Friars.com. Both matches will also have Live Stats.

BIG EAST Conference play got off to a difficult start for Seton Hall last weekend. The Pirates dropped a hard-fought four-set contest against Georgetown on Friday before being swept by Villanova on Saturday.

Freshman Sadie Reich (Wantagh, N.Y.) had another strong effort with a match-high 18 kills to go with eight digs in Seton Hall's loss to Georgetown. Sophomore Gwen Adler (Barrington, Ill.) nearly had a double-double with 32 assists and nine digs. On Saturday against Villanova, Adler had team-highs of eight assists and nine digs to go with four kills and two blocks.

SCOUTING CONNECTICUT
Seton Hall and Connecticut will continue their long rivalry on Friday. The Huskies own a 22-16 all-time series lead, but the Pirates have largely dominated the series lately, having won five of the last six meetings. Last season, the teams split a pair of matches with each team winning on their home floor.

Connecticut is coming off an impressive 26-8 season in 2024, which included a 12-6 mark in BIG EAST play. The Huskies earned the No. 3 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament, but were upset in the first round by No. 6 Villanova in five sets. UConn decided to play in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship and defeated Mercer and East Carolina before falling to rival St. John's in the event's "Great 8.". McKenna Brand was named BIG EAST Co-Freshman of the Year. Doga Kutlu and Emma Werkmeister were also named to the All-BIG EAST Team with Kutlu receiving unanimous recognition.

This season, Connecticut was picked to finish third in the BIG EAST, according to the conference's preseason coaches' poll. Brand, Kutlu and Werkmeister all return and were named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.Â

The Huskies closed out their non-conference schedule with a sparkling 11-1 record, but hit a speed bump as BIG EAST began last weekend. UConn lost both of its opening conference matches, dropping a four-set contest at DePaul on Friday before being swept at Marquette on Saturday. Werkmeister currently ranks sixth in the BIG EAST with 3.71 kills per set and second with 0.56 aces per set.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
Seton Hall and Providence will reunite for the 44th time on Saturday. The Hall owns a 25-18 all-time series lead and has won its last five matches. Furthermore, the Pirates have defeated Providence in 20 of the last 24 meetings.

Providence is coming off an 8-21 season, which included a 1-17 mark in BIG EAST play in 2024.Â

This season, Providence was picked to finish last in the 11-team BIG EAST, according to the conference's preseason coaches' poll. The Friars returned 10 players from last year's roster and added five newcomers.  Highlighting the returning core are juniors Lyric Berry, Miller McDonald and Macy Taylor as well as sophomore Sophia Adkins.

The Friars closed out their non-conference schedule with a 9-4 record, but like Connecticut, opened BIG EAST play with a pair of losses last weekend. Providence was swept at both DePaul and Marquette. Sophia Adkins currently leads the Friars and ranks fourth in the BIG EAST with 3.81 kills per set. Hadley Pride leads the conference with 5.64 digs per set.

Next weekend, Seton Hall will return to history Walsh Gymnasium when it hosts Marquette on Friday, Oct. 10, followed by DePaul on Saturday, Oct. 11. Both contests will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
