
Shah, Lally Impress in FAU Invitational Round 1

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLA. – Junior Eli Shah (Newtown Square, Pa.) and David Lally (Wicklow, Ireland) each shot a 3-under-par, 69, to lead the Seton Hall men's golf team in round one at the FAU Golf Invitational at Panther National on Monday.

Shah had four birdies and 13 pars fuel his sixth sub-par round in 10 rounds so far this fall. Lally had six birdies and nine pars to power his impressive round. The two Pirates were tied for fifth place among 88 individual golfers after round one. Tarleton State's Alvaro Pastor shot a 6-under-par, 66, to lead the field on Monday.

The field was expected to play two rounds today, but darkness fell before it could complete round two.

As a team, The Hall shot an even-par, 288, in the opening round. Tarleton State shot a 12-under-par, 276, in the opening round. The Hall was in fourth place among a large field of 16 teams after 18 holes.

Freshman Jace Hulett (Boerne, Texas) had four birdies and 11 pars in route to a 1-over-par, 73, in round one.Â

Graduate student George Fricker (Woodbridge, England) had three birdies in round one and shot a 5-over-par, 77.

Sophomore Will Hennessee (Tulsa, Okla.) had a rough start to his tournament with a 10-over-par, 82, in round one.

THE COURSE:
The Panther National championship golf course—designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus and Justin Thomas making his design debut—features steep elevation changes and dramatic vistas.  The 18-hole course can play 8,000 yards from the longest tees all the way down to 4,500 yards.  This rare diversity in length allows the picturesque course to be a "major tournament" test for the expert golfer while always presenting a very playable, enjoyable course for all members.

THE FIELD:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Florida Atlantic, the large field includes 17 other schools: Abilene Christian, Campbell, Central Florida, Florida, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Navy, North Alabama, Samford, Stetson, Tarleton State, Troy, USF and West Georgia. BIG EAST competitor Creighton is also in the field.

THE FORMAT:
Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

THE SCHEDULE:
The teams will play two continuous rounds on Monday beginning with tee times that start at 7:30 a.m. The Pirates will be paired with golfers from Jacksonville, Navy and Samford for rounds one and two, teeing off on hole No. 10. A final round will also begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
