
Freshman Shine as Pirates Fall to Towson

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – In the first meet of the season, with a team full of new faces, the Seton Hall women's swimming and diving team fell to Towson, 207-92.
Diving
Down two divers entering the meet, the scoring onus for the Pirates landed on senior Amy Kugelman and sophomore Sarah Behrman. Despite the disadvantage, Kugleman collected a third-place finish on the one-meter board with a score of 238.35, while Behrman collected her own third-place finish on the one-meter with a score of 231.67.
Swimming
Despite being outnumbered in many events, the Pirates put up an intense fight against the Tigers. After a contested start of the race, sophomore Zeynep Aysoy easily secured victory in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:33.17. She later secured a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:10.07.
Another returner also put her stamp on this meet. Naima Hazell, the school record holder in the 50 freestyle, swam away with the event, winning by 0.40 seconds with a time of 23.84.
While the returners produced good results, a pair of freshman made their mark in the season opener. In the 200 butterfly, Hannah Pronk battled her way to victory in a hotly contested 200 butterfly event, narrowly pulling away in the final meters to win with a time of 2:09.41.
Alongside Pronk, Ella Drakulich also collected a pair of strong results. Drakulich separated herself from the field in the breaststroke leg of the 200 IM to win the event by over one second with a time of 2:10.84. The freshman also challenged for the win in the 200 breaststroke, but only finished third with a time of 2:27.51.

The Pirates return to action on Friday, October 17, when the women's team plays host to the Villanova Wildcats women's side. The meet is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
