
Pirates Drop Contest at Marquette, 3-0

MILWAUKEE – Senior Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkiye) and sophomore Hanna Labanowska (Olszewnica Stara, Poland) had seven kills apiece, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at Marquette, 3-0 (20-25, 11-25, 16-25), on Sunday.

The Hall led for much of the first set, but fell late, and the final two sets were largely dominated by the Golden Eagles.

Subasili had seven kills, only two attack errors, three aces and two blocks. Labanowska had seven kills and four digs.

Senior Rylee Nelson (Mazeppa, Minn.) collected a team-best 11 digs, while Gwen Adler (Barrington, Ill.) had 11 assists and four digs.

A kill by Daria Safian (Moscow, Russia) gave The Hall a 14-10 lead in set one, but Marquette answered with four straight points to tie the set at 14. With the score tied at 18, the Golden Eagles scored four straight and forced at Seton Hall time out. A kill by Subasili cut The Hall's deficit to 23-20, but Marquette was able to close out a 25-20 set-one victory.

An ace by Subasili cut The Hall's deficit to 5-4 early in set two, but the Golden Eagles responded with an 8-0 run to grab a commanding 13-5 advantage. A block by Labanowska brought Seton Hall to within 19-9, but Marquette finished the second frame with a 6-2 spurt. Seton Hall had a -.172 attack percentage in the second set with five kills and 10 attack errors.

A block by Subasili and Alex Rasmussen (Lincoln, Neb.) cut Seton Hall's set three deficit to 9-6, but the Golden Eagles scored four of the next five points to jump ahead 13-7. The Hall got two back, but Marquette answered with four points in a row to grab a commanding 17-9 advantage. A kill by Subasili cut the Pirates' deficit to 20-15, but Marquette scored four in a row to enter match point. A kill by Safian staved off the loss temporarily, but the Golden Eagles won set three, 25-16.

The Pirates will return to action on Saturday, November 15 when they return to historic Walsh Gymnasium to take on No. 12 Creighton. Match time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET.
