RALEIGH, N.C. – Sophomore Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) had team-highs of 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team was outlasted by NC State, 61-53, on Sunday.
The Hall got out to a strong start, and had a lead at the half for the seventh straight game to open the year, but the Wolfpack's bigs wore down the Pirates on the glass. NC State's front court, listed at 6-foot-6, 6-foot-3, and the 6-foot-2 Khamil Pierre, who leads the country in rebounding, helped the Wolfpack pull down 51 rebounds, a high for a Seton Hall opponent this season.
Eads led the team with 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Jordana Codio (Winter Garden, Fla.) had 10 points, six rebounds and two steals. Mariana Valenzuela (Mazatlan, Mexico) had 10 points and five rebounds.
Junior Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) didn't have a great shooting game, but she still filled the box score with seven points, seven rebounds, three steals and six fouls drawn.
THE STORY:
Seton Hall opened the game with an 8-2 run bolstered by made three-pointers by Valenzuela and Codio. Trailing 19-14 in the second quarter, NC State went on an 8-2 burst to take their first lead of the game, 22-21 with 8:24 left before halftime. The Hall bounced back with a 10-0 run and a made jumper by Zahara Bishop (Minneapolis, Minn.) gave them a 31-22 lead with 3:04 to go before the break.
A made jumper by Eads put The Hall up 37-30, but the Wolfpack answered with an 11-2 run to take a 41-39 advantage with 4:13 left in the third quarter. The Pirates trailed by
The Pirates continued to get stops defensively in the fourth quarter, but their shooting went cold. From 8:47 to 2:26, The Hall missed eight consecutive shots. A layup by Eads ended the drought, and cut Seton Hall's deficit to 58-53, but alas the Pirates couldn't get closer. The Hall shot just 2-for-14 from the floor in the fourth quarter.

Seton Hall will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 9 when it hosts local non-conference rival Columbia in historic Walsh Gymnasium. Tip-time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
