Quartet of Pirates Claim All-BIG EAST Honors

NEW YORK, N.Y. – After a season filled with record-breaking campaigns and breakouts performances, four Seton Hall softball team members — graduate student Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.), senior Olivia Gilbert (Johnston, R.I.), in addition to juniors Kyra Kreuscher (Great River, N.Y.) and Caroline Hobbes (Bay Shore, N.Y.) — earned spots on the All-BIG EAST Second Team, the conference announced Tuesday.
In her final season with The Hall, Carr produced a career-best campaign at the plate. From the third spot in the Pirates' batting order, Carr evolved into one of the most disciplined hitters in the country. The Ridgewood, N.Y. product finished BIG EAST play ranked first in the conference in walks drawn (27), fifth in on-base percentage (.523), tied for tenth in home runs (5) and led the Pirates in OPS (1.146). Pitchers feared Carr to the degree that she logged at least one walk in 18 of the 24 games and multiple walks in six of those games. With her third consecutive All-BIG East selection, Carr becomes the fourth Pirate ever, and first since Hailey Arteaga (2017-21), to be a three-time All-BIG EAST honoree.
After collecting All-BIG EAST honors last season as a junior, Gilbert's even better senior campaign landed her on the All-BIG EAST Second Team. Throughout conference play, when Gilbert made contact, she did damage. Her season-ending marks in batting average (.378) and slugging percentage (.662) lead the team and ranked top ten in the conference. With that quality of contact came high counting stats as well. Gilbert led an explosive Pirates offense with RBI (24), home runs (5) and total bases (49), all of which ranked top ten in the BIG EAST. The Johnston, R.I. native collected six multi-RBI games and 19 games with a hit across 24 conference contests this season.
After a strong defensive performance in her first full season as a starter in 2024, Hobbes took a massive leap at the plate this season. The second baseman saw her batting average in BIG EAST play jump over 200 points from .119 to .377, which ranked ninth in the conference. Similarly, Hobbes' on-base percentage also grew 200 points from .213 to .456, which sat just outside the top ten in the BIG EAST. With that growth, the Long Island native rose to the second spot in the Pirates' lineup and scored a team-leading of 21 runs, the ninth-highest mark in the conference. This is Hobbes' first All-BIG EAST Selection.
After spending two seasons as the do-it-all member of the Pirates' pitching staff, Kreuscher cemented herself as the Pirates' second starter this season. The New York native logged a career-high three complete games, while also setting new bests in strikeouts (36), appearances (16), innings pitched (63.2) and wins (5). The defining game of Kreuscher's season came in Seton Hall's 10-0 run rule victory over BIG EAST Regular Season Champions St. John's. In her five-inning complete game win, Kreuscher shut down the Red Storm's vaunted offense, allowing only four hits and racking up a career-high seven strikeouts. This is Kreuscher's first All-BIG EAST Selection.
