SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Mired by early-inning woes, the Seton Hall softball team (11-17, 2-9) fell to the Providence Friars (14-11, 7-1), 11-2 in six innings, at Mike Sheppard Sr. Field on Friday afternoon.

How It Happened
Despite the sun shining, the Pirates found themselves weathering a storm in the early innings. After falling down 7-0 in two innings yesterday, the Pirates found themselves trailing by the same margin after three innings following a pair of three-run frames. The deficit was not caused by a lack of opportunity, however, as The Hall failed to capitalize on two two-on, two-out situations during that span.

Eventually, the Pirates' small ball style found paydirt in the fourth innings. With two runners in scoring position and one out, Christina Ginex's single and Angelina Benitez's sacrifice fly reduced the deficit to 5, 7-2.

After booking a nearly clean fifth frame in the field, The Hall appeared to have settled into the game and was readying for a comeback. However, a pair of Friar home runs in the sixth inning turned a five-run deficit into 11 runs, putting Seton Hall's back against the wall. Unfortunately, the Pirates were not able to find any resistance in the bottom of the sixth and fell 11-2.

With the loss, the Pirates move to 11-17 on the season and 2-9 in BIG EAST play.
With one hit today, Benitez has now recorded a hit in 23 of 27 games this season.
- Benitez reached 40 hits on the season.
With two hits, Ginex recorded her fifth multi-hit game of the season.

What's Next
The Pirates will close out the season series against the Providence on Sunday March 28, at Mike Sheppard Sr. Field. First pitch for game two is scheduled for 12 p.m.
