How It Happened (Game One)
- Both sides traded scoreless frames amid the opening few stanzas of this BIG EAST duel. DePaul struck first in the third frame, however, when a single and a Seton Hall error led to three Blue Demon runs before the end of the inning.
- The Hall's offense responded immediately, however, in the bottom of the inning. After loading the bases after three batters, Katey Brennan launched a ball into the gap in left centerfield, scoring all three runners and tying the game at 3-3.
- With the game tied, Kyra Kreuscher began a dominant stretch in the circle. Kreuscher overpowered her opposition, reaching a career-high eight strikeouts through five innings.
- Unfortunately, the Blue Demons would break the stalemate in the sixth inning with a two-run inning, aided by a pair of errors, to take a 5-3 lead over The Hall.
- Despite the deficit, Seton Hall came surging back in the seventh inning. With only one out left before the end of the game, Naya Martinez cut it to a 5-4 game with an RBI single up the middle. However, even with two runners, The Hall could not find the equalizer and fell 5-4 in game one.
- After a brief break, Seton Hall found itself down 1-0 early after a first-inning home run by DePaul.
- After that early run, however, both offenses quickly stalled out. The Pirates had the best chance of either team to add more runs in the opening four innings. Despite putting two runners on with no outs in the fourth inning, The Hall could not score any runs and remained scoreless.
- After those missed opportunities, the Blue Demons countered with four runs of their own, including a three-run home run, to make it a six-run game.
- Angelina Benitez attempted to spark a seventh-inning rally with a one-out single, but The Hall could not capitalize and fell 6-0 in game two.
- With the losses, the Pirates move to 18-25 on the season and 6-15 in BIG EAST play.
- With her 200th start today, Perez became the fifth player in program history to start 200 or more games at Seton Hall.
- With three hits today, at least once in each game, Benitez has now recorded a hit in 39 of 43 games this season.
- Benitez extended her hit streak to 23 straight games.
- Howard recorded her 20th hit of the season.
- Kreuscher recorded a career-high nine strikeouts.
The Pirates will travel to Piscataway, New Jersey, on Wednesday, April 22, to complete the home-and-home series against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
