Pirates Down DePaul in Rain-Filled Duel

How It Happened
- The game didn't start smoothly for The Hall after a first-inning scare by the Blue Demons. Luckily, Karissa Dupuis shut down DePaul's two-out threat without allowing a run.
- As the rain began to fall, the Pirates went to the plate looking to strike first. Aided by small ball play and a pair of wild pitches, Angelina Benitez came home to score to take a 1-0 lead. As the rainfall increased, a minor delay in play arose due to the conditions. However, when the game resumed with two runners on and one out, the Pirates could not manage to add another run.
- While Dupuis continued to handle the opposition in the circle, it took The Hall until the third inning to go on another offensive run. A flyout led to chaos on the basepaths, allowing Benitez to score again, adding another run to the tally. However, in the next at-bat, Lea Kosinski bounced a ball through the left side to score Naya Martinez and Sophia DeMarco, putting The Hall in front 4-0.
- The Blue Demons would finally respond in the top of the fourth with a solo home run to center, but Katey Brennan would not let that go unanswered. The junior launched a sacrifice fly to put Seton Hall back up four, 5-1.
- In the seventh inning, DePaul threatened to take control of the game after cutting The Hall's led to two and loading the bases. However, Dupuis struck out the final batter looking to secure a 5-3 win in the series opener.
- With the win, the Pirates move to 18-23 on the season and 6-13 in BIG EAST play.
- With three hits today, Benitez has now recorded a hit in 37 of 41 games this season and surpassed 60 hits on the season.
- DeMarco recorded her 40th run scored of the season.
- Kosinski recorded her fourth multi-RBI game of the season.
- Dupuis recorded her sixth complete game of the season.
The Pirates will close out the series against DePaul on Saturday, April 18, with Senior Day doubleheader. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 12 p.m.
