Five Pirates Named CSC Academic All-District

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Five members of the Seton Hall softball team were named to this year's College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, the organization announced. Junior Katey Brennan (Yardley, Pa.), as well as sophomores Angelina Benitez (Hightstown, N.J.), Sophia DeMarco (Cranford, N.J.), Rachael Schumann (Downingtown, Pa.) and Naya Martinez (Lyndhurst, N.J.) were honored.
The 2026 Academic All-District® Softball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Students must post a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 and meet playing time thresholds based on their positions.
Brennan continued her standout career with the Pirates, starting 47 games while amassing 26 runs scored, 17 extra-base hits and a career-best .345 batting average. She continued demonstrating her signature elite plate discipline, striking out 14 times while walking 29 times, including a stretch in which she recorded 11 straight hits and a .765 batting average on her way to BIG EAST Player of the Week Honors. Brennan is pursuing a degree in elementary and special education and has a 3.912 cumulative GPA.
Benitez broke out in her sophomore season, producing one of the best seasons by a Seton Hall hitter in program history. Stepping into both the everyday centerfielder and leadoff hitter roles, Benitez started all 49 games, hitting a dominant .385 on the season with a team-leading 35 runs and 67 hits overall, the latter of which was tied for the second-most knocks by any Pirate in a single season in program history. Alongside these elite numbers, the sophomore logged a program record 23-game hit streak, one of the five longest streaks in the nation this season. Benitez is pursuing a degree in marketing and holds a 3.960 cumulative GPA.
DeMarco stepped into the lineup this season for the Pirates and became the team's preeminent power threat. The Cranford, New Jersey, native started 47 games this season, hitting .299 with team-leading tallies of six home runs and 31 RBI. DeMarco is pursuing a degree in communication and retains a 3.898 cumulative GPA.
Martinez was a Swiss-army knife this season for The Hall, starting games at four different positions. Across her 41 starts and 44 appearances, Martinez notched a .286 batting average with three home runs and 22 RBI. Martinez is pursuing a degree in marketing and sport management and owns a 3.821 cumulative GPA.
Schumann took on a bigger workload this season for the Pirates, logging 79.1 innings pitched, 31 appearances and 13 starts, all career highs. Her biggest start of the season came against Saint Joseph's when she threw five innings of one-run ball in The Hall's 4-3 extra-innings win over the Hawks. Schumann is majoring in biochemistry and retains a 4.00 GPA.
