Villanova, Pa. – The Seton Hall women's soccer team opened up BIG EAST play on Saturday afternoon, dropping a match on the road to Villanova, 1-0.
How it Happened
Villanova controlled the play during the first half of action, forcing the Pirates' backline to step into action early on. The Wildcats' attacking pressure would eventually pay off, as a goal from Gabby Koluch in the 27th minute gave the hosts a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Seton Hall operated in the attacking third more often to generate some chances to equalize. In the 56th minute, Gianna Angelillo found space on the outside of the box and fired a shot, but it went sailing over the crossbar. Later on in the 83rd minute, Angelillo would again navigate her way into an open area 20 yards from goal but was unable to fire on target.
In goal, freshman Kate Kleinsmith made three saves. Her best came in the 86th minute, as Kleinsmith dove to her right to make a sprawling save on a Hannah Curtin shot to keep it a one-goal game at the time.
