South Orange, N.J. – Gianna Angelillo scored her sixth goal of the season, but the Pirates dropped their BIG EAST home opener to Georgetown, 3-1, on Wednesday night at Owen T. Carroll Field.
How it Happened
Despite mustering just four total shots, there was no shortage of solid scoring chances for Seton Hall throughout the night. The Pirate attack controlled possession through much of the early going, operating in Georgetown's defensive third for a bulk of the first half hour but was unable to cash in. The Hoyas would turn the tide in the 30th minute to open the scoring on a goal from Natalie Means. Just under three minutes later, Georgetown would strike a second time to carry a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, the Pirates again possessed the ball well. That pressure led to the first Seton Hall goal in the 50th minute, as a handball in the penalty area awarded the Pirates with a penalty kick. Angelillo stepped to the spot and drilled home her sixth goal of the season to put the hosts on the scoreboard.
With the Pirates back within a goal, the Hoyas flipped momentum back in their favor. Shay Montgomery was able to push the lead back to two with a goal in the 60th minute to add some insurance. The Hoyas would play the possession game down the stretch to salt away the victory.
